  • I'm in a complete state of shock over the price of gas, so I've stopped driving altogether.

My 97 gets the best gas milage of any car I own, but I am subconsiously changing the way I drive. I was always getting around 22 mpg around town but the last two times I checked it was 24.5+ so I must be shifting earlier and using 6th more often;LOL
What I do need to do is consolidate trips to town; but my old mind always forgets something, I need just need a notepad to jot things down but I always forget to pick one up.;LOL

Driving the Vette as it gets better mileage at 22.8 than the 94 Silverado. Wifes Chrysler 300 does pretty good on the gas but it is her get around car and so I don't drive it to work. Considering getting a new MC. Looking at Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1600. Can't do the HD route as I need to have the Hydraulic clutch lever due to Arthiritis in left hand. Wife said go ahead and get it but been to dealer twice and can't get anyone to sell me one. They are too busy with everyone else buying scooters and under 500 cc bikes. That's okay as I ain't going to buy it for gas saving purposes and if I have to wait till the 2006's come out I will as I am in no big hurry. I doubt we will ever see gas costs below $2.00 again.

We are paying over $5.00 US a gallon here and Thunder only drinks the hi-test stuff with his 11:1 compression.

If you can’t afford a Corvette sell it and buy a Yugo or a Hybrid!

Stop *****ing or impeach Bush…. The choice is yours.

Thay are comeing out with a 4 dr and wagon!! It will be called a Wego!! ;LOL;LOL ;LOL junk!!

My Dodge Ram is only good for about 15 mph ,so i'm driving my Vette more, but will be riding my Harley more often as soon as my new tire comes in..
So what MPG are most C-5 owners getting ? I'm averaging around 22-24. Thought it would be around 26-28 ,I'm somewhat disappointed.

In addition , I ordered a K&N airfilter today, Hoping it will help my gas mileage.
Any thoughts?

I spent $3.00 for a stinkin bottle of water at the shore this past weekend. How sick was that?

I can deal with the crazy gas prices. I still wont spend $2 for a plastic bottle of water though.

Gas is still a bargin, I am gald I dont have to fill the tank with Heineken. (Or milk)

[Did the K&N filter go on your Vette ?QUOTE=Sharondippity]It's a 98 Sport 4WD.

I put a k&n air filter on it and it helped alot[/QUOTE]

And this crisis will be forgotten as the one below was forgotten...

And you know, in 1975 unleaded premium was selling for 68 cents/Gal.
The thing is, I remember shortages, Odd/Even day rationing, 5 Gal. maximum purchase, but I DON'T remember huge price increases that shot up $1.00 overnight. I do remember something, not much, but something.
I remember earning $2.65/ Hr. but not putting out a half a days pay to fill the tank.
I remember being a H.S. graduate, but I don't remember staying home from graduation because I couldn't afford to fill the car with gas.
I remember waiting in lines to buy gas, but I don't remember oil companies reporting record profits as I sat in line.
Maybe my memory fails me. Maybe not!

Last weekend I drove to Reno, NV for a Red Corvette Gathering. I drove from Riverside County, CA to Reno, NV roundtrip, we did a 225 mile long poker run and I was doing no less than 75 MPH ( top it to 158 MPH and 168 MPH). The old C4 lady gave me an average of 23 MPG. I used premium with octane booster.
Below is the most expensive gas I saw on the road. It must be 10 cents higher by now. FYI gasoline will go higher and winter is only 3 months from now:cry

Now that's really helpful.

No change here. I'll drive anyway I damn well choose. A little extra $ is not going to kill me. We still don't pay as much as Europe.

I have a brand new set of (4) Firestone tires. What size tires are you looking for. Let me know, maybe these will work for you.

I thought this would make an interesting subject for discussion. Rather than another "I can't believe the price of gas" thread in which everyone talks about how we're being gouged by oil companies, I thought it would be interesting to hear if and how folks are changing their driving habits right now.

This thread is about the practical: what we are doing as a matter of response to the cost of filling up our Corvettes. Have our driving habits changed?

I've not changed my driving habits.

My vettes are week end toys and a great source of enjoyment/relaxation for me.
I will drive and enjoy them come hell or high water.
I'll cut back on something else before I cut back on driving my vettes.

I remember the "gas shortage" of the 70's when gas climbed to an astronomical level of over $1.00/gallon.

Everyone was upset about the gaslines.
Funny...there aren't gaslines now.
Does that mean there isn't a shortage?
I wonder what's causing the increase in gas prices?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........................
