So I've been dropping the hint to my wife that I'd like to fill that last spot in the garage w/ a new ZO6. Well, to make a long story short, she said that she didnt have a problem getting the Z but I would have to get rid of the 67.

I've given it alot of thought BUT I dont think I can bring myself to sell it. Its just too classy of a car,and it sure gets alot of looks.

So the brings me to my question, how many of you would be willing to sell off your C1s and C2s for a new ZO6??

Jim

Seriously?

Not on your life:nono

I have an 03 Z06.....as well as the '60 and '64.....I have to admit that the Z06 would go before the '60 and the '64....when 2008 comes around, I will have paid off my ex wife....I have toyed with the idea of getting a NEW Z06 to add to the other cars...but $70k or so for a new one....versus spending that same money on a real nice C2....the C2 will hold its value...who knows maybe even go up...but the Z06 has only one way to go...and that is DOWN...I know, I bought my Z06 at a good price and it is worth 25% less than I paid for it...my '60 and '64 are worth what I paid for them...maybe slightly more.....no comparison...

now I asked my better half what she thought about your choice....and she said, NO WAY to get rid of the '67.....in fact she said to me...what would I say? She would tell me that if it is something I wanted and had the money to pay for it and not crimp my life style, go for it.....she has a pretty good outlook on life....her husband passed away from cancer and she knows first hand how short life can be....so life it to the maximum....in fact on our refrigerator is a sign....."we are not here for a long time, but a good time"...also she says, don't look back on your life and regret not doing something or buying something...as long as it isn't immoral or illegal and you can afford it (don't buy things you can't afford)...go for it!!!

Not a chance

firstgear,
I have to say, I really like your posting on your refridgerator.I do think I'll eventually have one but I agree w/ you,I think I'll wait a couple years and see where they go.

Perrysburg isnt that far away from Norwalk (where I live now)...if you want to have some fun some time soon...the body is coming off the '60....always looking for help....you are more than welcome to come by......Herb

Well Then I guess I'll be seeing them in my driveway broken down again.......

Gheeeeeeeeeeeeezzz...:eyerole

firstgear,
I cant believe all the posts I've read of yours and never picked up that you are from Fremont/Norwalk. I'm in orthopedic sales and am in the hospitals in Fremont ,Bellevue and Sandusky all the time. I'd like to help if I can w/ your lift off.Do you know Smitty from sandusky(he rebuilds and works on old vetts in that area)

I have a 67 427/400, too. My wife cried real tears when we traded my last 67. a 327/350 Marlboro Maroon coupe and we waited about 10 years when the funds were right and I sold a property and the first thing she said was, "Go get your 67." She knew one of my 3 all time dream Corvettes was a 67 427/400 a/c coupe. Now that we have it, I'd have to go before she'd let this one get away.
I think you're on the right track with waiting a bit to see where the new Z06's go before you jump in. But I am so obviously biased towards that 400hp tri power beauty, it ain't even funny.
Think about what an absolute piece of history you have with the 427/400 set up. Think about the cool factor...there ain't too many much cooler than the 67 BB. Think about 67Heaven's old banner..the one with the front end of the 67 BB and the caption, "When cool was measured in cubic inches."
BTW, I love the refrigerator sentiment, I'll remember that.
I can promise you that if you let the 67 get away you'll regret it. I did for 10 years. It made me feel like the Happy Days episode when the Fonz lost his motorcycle.....empty and like I wasn't really me.

Zr, Very well put. Your rite ,the 67 not goin anywhere. Now if I can just get the carbs workin g the way thier suppose to. Jim

You have good taste in cars. I waited 40 years for mine. Intend to be buried in it

Suggest you have a similar if not quite so drastic a plan ;)

I sure do want the Z06. I have a fellow after my 62 and if a Z06 was available tomorow I would probably let the 62 go.

I really want one bad after seeing the show on speed vision

I think he was doing 135 in third gear.

We will see what happens comes this spring.

For sure the best would be to get rid of our C5 for it but i will be taking such a beating on the sale of the C5

It's not an option, I would try this on her,,,

Jim,

How do you think it would go over with your wife, if she was obliged to get rid of her favourite pair of shoes, before even thinking of purchasing an additional pair. I wonder if she would seriously consider that as being an option. ?

If you can afford it without disrupting the lifestyle of anyone in the family, for God's sake, go for it.

Stepinwolf

I have a 64 and there is no way I would sell her for a new Z06. I did buy my 05 a few months ago with full support of my wife. In fact, she is the one who found our sunset orange 05 on the internet. I am just one lucky guy to have a wife that is almost as much as a Vette nut as I am. But, sell a 67 for a new Z06....NO WAY.

I don't have a Z or a C1/C2 but if the two were before me for the choosing, as awesome as the Z06 is, hands down I'd take the C2.

Great question Jim.

Last year I was offered a considerable amount of money for my '67.
I would have almost doubled what we paid for it about four years ago.
I came home and told my wife about the offer.

Her reply?
"No way! You're not selling the '67!"
"You would regret that. You love that car too much".

She's right.

On the bright side, we do have a 2002 Z06 that is her daily driver.
The car is in immaculate condition as I fuss over it all the time.

A new "Z" will probably happen in about a year or so.

Best regards,
Pedro

I'd LOVE to have a new C6-Z06. Those things are monsters but I'd never sell my '65 to get one.
My '65 is nothing special in terms of midyears - a SB car, no rare options or color combos, no rare motor option, etc., but to me the fact that she is a midyear and she is mine makes her the most special car in the world and I plan on dying with her. I keep telling my wife "you can bury me in that car".
My wife (luckily) feels the same way about the vette.

So.......If I could afford a new Z06 I'd get one, but not if I had to sell the '65 to do it. No way, no how!

BTW, I like Stepinwolfs approach to tell your wife. But since shoes are MUCH less money than Corvettes, you might want to change it to jewelry. Would she want to sell off that engagement or wedding ring so she can buy the new piece of jewelry she has her eye on??!! Most women have a thereoy on jewelry - -always add to the collection, but NEVER sell off.
Well, Corvettes should be the same way. :D

All you guys make me jealous!! My wife does not care one bit about cars let alone a vette. The upside is I get to drive alone and work in my garage by myself, the down side is I do love her and miss not doing things together.

that really is a shame you wife has no interest in getting involved. My wife loves going out for drives with me in the car and going to shows. She gets upset if there is a show I'm going to with the car and she can't join me for some reason or another. She is also as active in our local Corvette Club as I am. We are both new board members of the club (I'm the newsletter editor and she is the new social chairperson).
She also had AT LEAST as good of a time at Carlisle as I did.

When I got laid off work not a month after I (we) purchased our '65 I was really thinking that we would no longer be able to afford to keep the car but she said immediately that selling the car was not an option and we would find someway to make things work.

Having a spouse that not only supports your interests but gets involved also is great to have and it allows us many various activites related to the car - drives, cruises, shows, club meetings and events, etc. - that we get to do together.

Even if your wife doesn't get "excited" about the car itself, maybe she would enjoy some of the activities that can be done because of the car and enjoy meeting a lot of the really great people in the hobby. It's a nice change of pace from the basic "go to dinner, go to a movie, or whatever you normally do with the wife, and it does allow you to spend more time together.
Of course for some people and some marriages having the time apart from each other maight be better also.........

I agree and we do have fun together but not with cars. I am in a business that deals with auto manufacturing and so I get to have my hobby and work combined. I am hoping next summer I can get her to come out and meet other vette owners. Trying to ease her into the CAC cruise fest.
