Thermostat Change

How difficult is it to change the thermostat on a 1988 L98? I'd like to install one with a lower operating temp.

Not hard, rather straightforward.

Just be easy getting those bolts out, most of the time they'll break.

I changed my T stat a while ago and if memory serves me right the procedure was simple. However you do need to take the time and be careful. There are vacum lines or something on that order right in the area of the T stat housing that are brittle. Other wise it was a piece of cake.

Thanks for the replies. My car seems to run a little hot in the summer with the a/c on in city traffic. I am thinking of installing a new thermostat and see if that helps. It is my daily driver so I don't want to start something that turns into a nightmare and can't be finished in a weekend.

Yeah, I broke a bolt off in mine last summer doing this, but it was a good excuse to get a TPIS BigMouth Hi-Flow intake. Also, If you will get a Low-Temp fan switch with the Low-Temp thermostat, It will help a lot more. (About $40.00
@ Ecklers). It's an easy install, because even I did it )

Not a diff. job at all. Like everybody said,be careful not to break a bolt. If it still overheats when your done,Do yourself a favor, Pull the radiator and have it cleaned out. I chased an overheating problem(engine just ran a little to hot for my taste) for a year. Last winter I pulled the radiator, and had it cleaned,Problem solved!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!
