My '69 with headers was plagued with starter problems once the engine was hot. The starter is so close to the headers, the heat would affect the starter so that it would not produce any juice after the car was shut off. I would typically have to wait about half an hour before the car would restart. Replacing with stock GM starters (even the Heavy Duty ones) was NOT a solution.
After many years trying to solve this problem, a "hot-rod" shop put a Honda (yikes!) racing starter on my car and the problem has been solved ever since.
Thought I'd pass this tip along to anyone who may be experiencing such a problem. Or if you putting on headers take note of this issue in advance to save you time and frustration.
Happy Vetting.
