Also, a threat of exposure through the media will motivate any shop keeper to correct mistakes. One letter to the BBB or state attorney general's office will prompt shop owners to man-up to thier errors.

Sorry, but if you believe THAT one I've got a bridge for sale... cheap...

I've had experiences with a dealer (non-GM) so horrid that among other things their franchise was yanked (as a result of my problems plus other people's) but not one threat to them, the BBB, or the manufacturer (who took THEIR side of things in my case) got them to fix the problem without costing me a ton of money and no car for three months.

Surprised!!!!!!!!!

Hi

When l picked up my vette from being worked on at a local dealership l was totally surprised by the bill.

Remember, l'm the one that tippped the service advisor!

l expected a bill around $8-$900, but it was only $303.

And let me tell you that they did a lot of work where the print out said no charge.

The total bill covered three sheets and it was full of things that were either done or checked out.

When l was called to tell me that the belt had a crack in it and something was wrong with the a/c. Plus my front hood wasn't sitting exactly right, it was only a loose bumper. And they changed the oil, filter with mobil 1 synth, air filter, check all fluid levels and lubed the entire car from front to back, l know because l checked it out.

Took the car for a road test because the car pulled to the right, no charge, because he said that l had new performance rotors and l would have to get on the brakes inorder to work them out.

They changed the serp belt because it had a crack, new wiper blades. Looked at the rear end and tranny to make sure it had fluid.

The only thing that didn't do was they noticed a small drip, l believe from the engine gasket and he said that it would be expensive because off all the things that had to be removed (one of the things was the water pump which is new). He gave me two price's that added up to almost $700, but said that it was still minor, but watch it.

l'm sure l'm leaving out some things.

Anyway, l feel l got my money's worth.

Alan

p.s. l forgot they also flushed out my radiator and replaced the anti freeze.

So they "checked the car out", fluids and such
Changed the serpintine belt, oil and filter change, air filter change, wiper blades adjusted the bumper and took it for a road test.

I guess by todays standards 303.00 is not alot for that. Parts alone I would guess at about 100 bucks

Did you see all the work that they did, and remember the parts listed out at $187. The labor was nil. plus tax.

The a/c fix was worth $100, the brakes, they could have told me anything.

l was ready to pay $800 and smile. Remember the labor alone is billed out at $75 an hour and l know they worked on my car a lot longer then that. They even lubed my brake pedel which really needed it. the air filter, wipers and l forgot they flushed out my radiator.

Not bad, but l'm sure they will nail me later!

Such is capitalism.

Having your Vette worked on for a few hours and getting a bill for only 300 is OK in my book.

I changed all the fluids, belts and hoses on my car the weekend I bought it, I smelled like tranny fluid and gear oil for days. Yes I did shower multiple times. Looking back I would have paid for the labor.

By the way, mine also had a drip in the front, a small oil leak between the manifold and the block, it was an all day job.

The oil change would've cost $50-60 itself from the dealer.

But I think that techs take a little bit more car for the Corvette's. Who knows, maybe they own a Corvette themself. I think there might be a certain degree of pride. It's an expensive car and the advisor would want to give it to a fully capable tech and any tech would like the honor of working on a Vette', as compared to a car that comes in there quite often.

If I were to tip anyone, it'd be the tech and not the advisor.

Oil Leak?????????????

Warren
Did you do the work yourself? Also did you have to remove the water pump??

Thanks

Alan

Just tossing in my 2 cents here Alan. Living where we live unfortunatley tipping actually does work well!!! I have heard of dealer nightmares from everyone and years back i used to sell cars on Staten Island (the 80's) Tipping always gives one some leverage in getting your car serviced quicker and in some cases in a more honest fashion. As much as I used to play with and work on my own cars having 3 young kids a wife and work the most used tool in my tool box is my checkbook!!! I have been extremely satisfied with the dealer service practices in my area which have included Chevy,Dodge ,Acura and Cadillac. Yes we can all do things ourselves for less but that goes with anything, home improvements investing etc. If you were happy with the service that was provided thats great!!!Keep on driving!! See ya at the next meeting!!! :drink
