Tire valve problem

I pulled my '02 coupe out of the garage on Tuesday to take it for a spin around the block. I know I have a leak in the right front tire so I took it to the gas station to put more air in it. Unfortunately I can't get any air in or out of the tire. The valve appears to be frozen. I'm thinking of getting a valve core removal tool and changing the valve core. The tires are using the original pressure sensors. Right now it is stuck at 15PSI on a worn EMT. The tires are going to be replaced soon anyway, but I'm hoping to wait until I can get back to NW Indiana to take advantage of wholesale pricing from a repair shop I know well.

Has anyone ever had this problem?

I have heard of defective (frozen) valve cores before, so that is where I would start. If air will not go in or out of the tire, this is probably the culprit. Any reliable service station or tire shop will change this out and inspect for a nominal fee, I would imagine. Good luck! Ron

I thought the inner cores were part of the tire pressure sensor. Can they be twisted out like a valve core in a non-EMT tire?? I don't know but I would make sure before I tried to pull it out.

You can change the core without any problem.
You will not damage the sensor in any way.

Very timely reading, I have a similar problem on one of mine. Won't register on 3 of my tire gauges, but on the cheapest one I own it works. Unfortunately inaccurately. I wondered if that was possibly the problem. Wasn't a whole lot else there to be wrong. Thanks for asking & answering before I got to it.

I'm gonna take a shot here at something that happened to me. When I took delivery of my '00 coupe last month I got a low tire pressure warning as I drove up the highway. When I stopped to add air I found the valve stem inner cores to be recessed so deeply into the valves that the air hose pin would not engage with the valve core and I couldn't put air into the tires. I tried 5 tire guages to read the pressure and none of them could reach the inner core. Ended up taking it back to the dealer and they had a tire center replace the inner cores. Could you possible have the wrong inner valve cores in your valve stems?

Well I found the problem and I have to admit I feel rather silly about it. I got new chrome valve stem caps for Christmas this past winter. One of the O-rings from inside the cap wedged itself inside the valve stem. I must not have seen it when I tried to put air in the tire as it was already dark out. When I went out yesterday morning to change the valve core, the problem was pretty obvious and nothing that a very small set of needlenose pliers couldn't fix.. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
