To 'Spare' or not to 'Spare'

I would think you are right. A collapsable item like a tire between the driver and the rear bumper might absorb some of the rear impact. Or, a rear impact might propel the tire. Hopefully John Z or another 'engineer' type will chime in on this one - could be an important item for consideration. Do you carry something to inflate after you would do the repair like VNV?

Nah, I'm a Wuss.

I installed a modern full size spare. In order to get that into the tub, I had to pull the factory down rods and substitute 14" threaded rod for the front mount. That way, you can JUST fit a standard size tire up into the tub.

Yup, I have a lower interference point than I had before. I just avoid the bumpy roads in Central New Jersey and target the flat lands. I may just switch to Fix a Flat but not yet.

I carry spare KO and tire in the tub. Have a jack, lug wrench, block of hardwood and a BFH for replacing the wheel.
