I have a 90 convertible with auto tranny. It seems that the front seal is leaking. I am going to have the tranny pulled and the seal replaced. Any suggestions on things that I should replace or upgrade while it is out? The car has 67K miles on it. I wasn't sure it a shift kit or other mods would be worth the money.

Thanks,
John

Shift kits will provide a firmer shift and help the tranny last longer by reducing the time it takes for the clutches to fully engage. A lot of people recommend the Trans-Go kit as it allows for some flexibility in shift firmness.

Use a synthetic transmission fluid. It's more expensive but it will help with overall tranny life. Ask the shop to completely inspect the tranny and determine what other repairs or replacements should be done while it's out.

c4cruiser has some good points.

Therre are all sorts of hop up parts for these trannys. Everything from max capacity clutch packs to improved Sun Shells, to improved boost valves, to kevlar lined bands. The pump has quite a lot that can be done to it also, 13 vane pumps, hardened rings, stronger springs.

You will have to talk to the shop about things like this and make your decision based on what you want from the car. I just rebuilt mine and added a lot of hop up parts and it is working like a champ, shifts are silky smooth but under WOT they are nice firm and solid.

Let me know what the seal replacement costs as mine is also in need of replacement.
