My 61 with the original trans jumps out of 2nd when deceleration. I have heard that its not unusual, but I'd like to get it fixed. Is that problem typically in the linkage or in the trans?
you will probably find that the gear that is acting up is worn from abuse and missed shifts it probaby will need the gear ,,blocking ring ,the shift syncroand shift fork for an effective repair .once the tranny is apart you don't know what else you will find Steve
It's in the transmission. I'm doing a full off body restoration on my 61' Corvette. We took our worn T-10 to a guy who rebuilds transmissions for Jasper. He gave us a call and explained that the T-10 has a tendency to slide out of second gear, but there was a kit to prevent this from happening. Not sure what the kit does exactly, but I can tell you how much it cost a couple years ago.
I had a Muncie M-22 that popped out of gear into neutral when I let off the gas. Took it apart, the synchronizers were fine but the 3-4 slider sleeve was shot from power shifts.
Got a major rebuild kit from Zip and rebuilt the entire trans; the slider sleeve was $80, which I had to buy separately from 4-speeds by Darryl. PT
NOt uncommon for cars that were beat on over the years. My 69 was just like that. The slider, syncros, and dogs were shot along with 2nd and 3rd gears. I rebuilt it and shifts great. Most of the parts in the good Master kits will help but the sliders and gears are separate and the cost is up there. Check www.5speeds.com for parts.
