Transmission slip or???

My transmission seems to be slipping a bit. It's so slight I am not sure that it is happening at all. When I am at speed (Anything over 30mph) and I give it more gas the engine will whine a little higher and then seem to shift. There seems to be a short pause before the shift. Now if I move the shift to drive I get immediate response with no pause. Could something be wrong with my overdrive? I have a 1995 LT1 with about 80K. I spoke to a local shop and they suggested I have my transmission flushed. I had that done a little over a year ago. Could that fix the problem?

Sounds like you may be low on fluid. OR your pump is going out and you are low on fluid pressure. I don't hnk flushing is the answer. Any decent auto transmission shop should be able to tell you what the problem is. I guess it is possible that the passage in the valve body that activates the overdrive is partially plugged. I am no expert. If it is plugged, taking it apart and cleaning it up would seem to be the solution. Doesn't sound serious. Drive it until it gets serioous. Come on guys, we must have someone out there with auto trans expertise. Little help here please.

I just had my trans rebuilt for a similar problem. When in over drive, application of throttle would cause the rpms to build but no forward motion until the trans downshifted. I have just over 100K on mine. When the trans was torn down, the 3-4 clutch pack was worn out (a common problem in 700R4 and 4L60 transmissions), and the reverse, 2nd, 4th band was worn. I had the shop rebuild the trans, retaining the torque converter and solinoids.

The car is now noticeably faster, shifts firmer, and I am now getting about 3mpg better (no slippage).

Any good technician with a Tech II can check slippage in each gear, shift quality, and torque converter lockup. I have a good relationship with my local Chevy dealer and got their Master Machinic to drive mine for a couple of days and he checked mine out while he had it and gave me the bad news. I then had a local trans shop fix it, for about $1250.

that could be torque converter lock-up... it feels like a mini shift, and is normal. I am pretty sure when in straight drive, it won't lock up, which would explain why it wouldn't do it then... it is supposed to drop the RPMs when just cruising to get better gas mileage.

While on the subject of tranny fluid though, once a year is not overkill by any means.

Thanks for the replies guys, good ideas all around. I had something similer come up last year around this time which led to my having the transimission fluid flush. I was told by my local dealer that the 95s have an issue about not downshifting. I don't remember exactly what they said but it was something to the effect that it was the computer and the setting for at which RPM the transmission should downshift was too low and so by design my tranny would not downshift like I was expecting. Anyone hear of this? I think I posted something about it here but I will have to hunt around to find it.
