I had the automatic on my '86 completely rebuilt about 2,000 miles ago. The couple of times that I have stuck my foot all the way in coming off a stop light it seems to hang for just a second just as the tach goes into the red line before it shifts into second.

Having it out for the first time in a while tonight it did just as stated above except that after I stopped for a stop sign I only had first gear. I drove it a mile or so to my destination. It sat for about a hour and when I started back home again I only had first gear. I found a way to coax it into second by shifting into neutral and then back into drive. This worked several times after having to stop. After about five miles it all of a sudden started shifting normal again. Coming off a stop with a slight throttle brought normal shifts right up to 4th. Now that it seems to be working normal I try a little harder acceleration, part throttle, and it shifts just like it should through to top gear. I didn't mash on it thought. I wanted to make sure I got home. Monday, I will call the shop that did the tranny work but in the mean time, any ideas?

Thanks

up shift

My guess would be that the valve body might have had some very small particles of dirt left over somewhere in the case or the valve body it'self. It found it's way into the spool valves in the valve body and got things stuck for the moment. I'd still ask the shop what's up but if it's working properly now you can probably guess what they'll tell you. No one ever wants to take the trans out of a Vett a second time let alone for free!

Good luck!

Thanks for the response. Yesterday I took it out again and drove around until it was warmed up, but I stayed close to home. After it was good and warm I gave it a full throttle rrun from a stop. Shifted out of first just like you would want about the time the tach saw the yellow line, and no hesitation. Ran it out two more times and it worked perfectly, and it was still shifting through all four gears.

Today I called the shop and told them what had happened. He immediately said that it sounds like I have a valve sticking. They want me to bring it in so that they can check it out.

Thanks again!

Ron
