I have a 2000 2dr Cpe. Several times I have noticed that the turn signal doesn't respond at all when the lever is moved up or down. A few minutes later it will work normally when I try it at the next turn. I have seen posts about engaging the hazard flasher. Would that same approach be something to try here or is my problem more serious? Thanks for your help. The forum is always great!

Can you hear the relay clicking? Does it do the same thing in both directions? Sounds like it could be the turn signal switch. Do the hazards work at all when this happens?

Leon

I don't hear any clicking at all when it happens. Does the same thing in both directions. Have not tried the hazard flasher at the same time.

Turn Signal Inoperative On Ocassion

:confused I have a 2000 C-5 Coupe with a 6-speed and I have had the same thing happen on ocassion as well. I for what ever reason tried the hazzard flashers when this happen and they worked, turned them off and then immediatly tired the turn signals both dirctions and they started working then. Don' t know what the deal is with this either so if any one else out there has an idea I would love to hear it as well.Doesn't happen that often but it has on rare ocassion so I would like to figure out what is going on too.

Thanks,
Bill :w

Turn signal problems

I have tried engaging the hazard flasher when the turn signal problem occurs. Sometimes the turn signal will then come on when I disengage the hazard flasher. Other times, I still get no action. I could really use some help on this one. I hate the thought of letting my dealer sort it out.

Turn Signal Inoperative On Ocassion

Like I said before this has happened to me on occassion too; but as far as I can remember after I pushed the 4-way flasher button and then turn them off and tried the turn signals they worked, It might go a long time before this happens again. I would also like to hear some others that may have had this happen and what they ended up doing/or what the fix was. It is one of those things that would be very difficult to find unless it is malfuctioning when you look at it and then it seems very difficult to figure out;shrug. Mine is a 2000 C-5 Coupe with a 6-speed, not that this matters with this problem :confused.

;help PLEASE HELP ;help , anyone else out there ever had this problem, please let us know if you have.

Thanks, :w

I took mine out the other day and noticed the same thing. Turned left and (turn signal on) hazards kicked on (saw them going off shining off of the car in front of me) did not see them going off in side car !!! STRANGE- stopped at the next itersect. and it did not do it.

OK -- here's the solution.

It's the hazard switch. Test it this way.

Don't push it in and out, that's not the issue. Put the turn signal on. Even if it's working, lightly, with your index finger, move the hazard switch left and right (wiggle it). Notice what happens.

Try it as well, when the signal isn't working.

It will get progressively worse, until the only solution is to replace the hazard switch, which means opening the dash.

Good luck.

Had a problem with the turn signal lever on my '04...the light on the instrument panel would blink rapidly... out of sync. Took it to the dealer, turns out the multifunctional switch was defective. The steering column had to be disassembled... and seven hours later...was repaired. BUT NOW.....there is a loud (loud to me because I know my car very well) rattle in the steering column. It's distracting and annoying. Back to the dealer... :mad

Just thought I'd share this with ya...Good luck.

My turn signals is what quit working on ocassion and then I applied the 4-way flashers and they started working again. This has happen a few times and everytime I push the 4-way switch and then turn them off and try the turn signals and they start working again. One thing that I am conveinced of is this, they are definently tied together, but why when the turn signals quit working then I hit the 4-way switch, then shut it off and try the turn signals they work everytime that this becomes a problem. Like I said before this has only happened a few times but I've only had the care about 4 months and haven't driven it that much.

Thanks for any info that anyone might have,
Bill

My buddy had this problem on his 2001. He mentioned that the blinkers somehow switch through the hazard switch. His happened after he played around with the hazard switch. He warned me to not touch my hazard switch as I might start having problems too. Well, since mine is still under warranty, I tried it anyways, but I can't duplicate the problem. He fixed his (at least for now) by shooting some WD-40 into the hazard switch.

Hey hey..
I have an 02 6 speed and about once per week now the turn signals just stop working, they draw blanks on the inside and outside of the car. I even tried to put the hazards on one time to fix the problem, but that didn't work. Luckily it is only intermittent and doesn't go our for very long each time. I will try some of the tips on this thread and see how it goes. I'll keep you posted on my results, but you guys aren't alone.

Replacing the hazard switch is not too bad, I had to do it when I bought my car (I got the no-turn-signals discount ;shrug). You CAN do it without removing the dash, it does take some banging and cajoling:

Good luck!

Or, you can install the hyperflash/hazard bypass switch and eliminate the problem too. This cable install is a LOT easier and faster than replacing the hazard switch but the cable cost a tad bit more the switch. Way back when I did mine, the cost was equal. I see things have changed just a little. You can also build your own bypass cable.
