Ugly Wheel Weights

Something I never really noticed before. I had 2 new tires installed the other day and those ugly wheel weights are on the side of the wheels. I was going to take them back and tell him they don't belong on "one piece wheels" (No Hubcaps)--but I started to look at other cars, they ALL have them. What are you guys doing about that? I thought they were never on my car before, but I can see where he took the old ones off. I guess I noticed it because they were dull and old. --what do you think?

I have the stick-on weights on the inside of the rim, as close to center as possible.

Just remember to clean the inside of your wheels before you take them in to get balanced. I had one shop refuse to use the stick-on weights because of a little bit of brake dust on the inside of my wheels.

Inside too. Wheels have to be squeeky clean for them to stick.

Who put them in there? Did you do it yourself based on what's hanging on the outside? If so where did you get the weights?

I had my wheels refinished, the people who refinished them also mounted my tires and high speed balanced them for me. They put the weights on according to what the balancing machine said to do. They also put the clip on wheights on the inside edge of the rim as well as the stick on weights inside the rim as close to the outside of the rim as possible.

I had my clip on weights moved from the rim outside to the rim inside, exact opposite position. I don't use stick ons.

Stick ons for me as well. The outside clip on weights (in my opinion) really detract from the appearance of the rim, not to mention that they can scratch/damage the rim surface.

As an added safeguard, I apply a piece of duct tape over the stick on weights and check them regularly, as I did have an instance of losing a segment of one. The extra attention that they seem to require is worth the improvement in appearance to me.

I'm surprised the shop didn't just do what every shop I've used for tires or balancing does and wipe the relevant spot over with some spirits or similar.

Definitely have the shop mount the weights on the inside.

Just wanted to add one more suggestion, after you clean the area where you want to put the weights, heat it up with a heat gun before sticking the weights on. This will dry the area and help the weights stick better. They don't stick well to cold aluminum.
