In case anyone is interested. On the National Geographic Channel I caught by accident "Ultimate Factories Covette" ... really cool to see. It's all about how the Z06 is built. There a video, link provided. Hope it works. I don't know if it's gonna be aired again or not. Hand built engine, no oil pan, balanced well for handling. Truly an ultimate car! Impressive!

I think that show ran last week and was followed or preceded by Ferrari and BMW. I recorded the Corvette show but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

We don't get the Nat.Geo channel here, so i had my daughter record it for me. It is really interesting.

I watched it, it was okay, didn't really go into too much detail. There were endless clips of the Z06 screeching around roads, which took up about half the show. Incredibly light on details about how the car is made. There was a 15 minute segment on the paint booth, which was way too long, I guess GM wants potential customers to know how carefully planned the orange peel really is.

Was neat to see the aluminum frame being made, and the engine being assembled, but BMW & Ferrari had no problem showing engine blocks being cast. GM apparently doesn't want anyone to see that. Still, it was cool to see the actual factory, all the people who worked there were very proud of their jobs and the car they were making. They showed the "body drop", which was really neat to see, the marriage of the frame with the drive train.

The host was a dork.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the blocks are cast at the Performance Build Center in Wixom. I'd bet they are probably cast elsewhere and assembled at Wixom. That might be why they didn't show them being cast?
