Hi, I just bought a 1996 LT4 coupe the other day and I am hearing a noise that I can not figure out. It only seems to happen when I accelerate from a stop or sometimes when i am stopping. I only hear it up until about 4-5 mph and then I can not hear it anymore. It seems to be coming from the passenger side of the car. I orginally thought it was coming from the front suspension but having my friend sit in the passenger seat he thinks it may be coming from further back than the suspension. COuld it be the suspension or something in the driveline? Any suggestions of where and how to look would be great. Thanks, this forum has been a wealth of knowledge already.

I had the same problem on my CE. It generally happened after the car had been sitting for a while (days), or when it was cold out.

Ultimately it turned out to be the shocks, which I replaced. I never heard that sound again!

Low speed noise

Hi Mike, the noise might be a u-joint. Does it sound like a"creek creek" at every rotation the drive shaft? It starts slow at frist then goes faster? good luck.bob

Mellow out!!!!

Hi

Don't let this bug you, because there is more to come. The main thing that a vette does is keep you busy searching for rattles and weird noise's. And when you find them, you cannot get to them without taking the car apart. And when you fix the rattles, new ones will pop out.

The general advice here is to just turn your radio up.

l've been in many vettes that were supposed to be tight is a drum, but what kind of drum????

Bob,
It doesnt speed up as the car accelerates and it doesnt even make the noise when I start out sometimes. I have determined that it is coming from the back of the car and not the front suspension. What does a bad wheel bearing sound like, could it be that?
Mike

Wheel bearing

HI Mike, bearings usually growl but fad away as you steer from one side to another.Noise when loaded quiet when unloaded.thanks bob.

I have a '89 Vert and no squeaks or rattles. I do get road noise coming thru the top, but its not that bad at all. For a 23yr old Vert with 78k miles, it is quiet. I did notice some weatherstripping around the door at the windows was turning to dust, but no air leaks or noise from it. I changed all the weatherstripping on the doors last week and put that quiet or hush panel between the door and the inside panel. With all that replaced, it wasn't any quieter than before. My exhaust is quiet so I would hear any noise or rattles if they existed. I've had Verts before and expect some road noise thru the top, but this one has been tight and quiet right along. Maybe I'm lucky, but I do keep after things and any squeaks or rattles would drive me nuts. The top is original and that weatherstripping on it is original also. Probably be replacing that soon, but right now its holding up just fine.
