This may not be news to you but it was something I hadn't considered, and I'm posting it here for anyone else that may be unaware.

I called GM Customer Service over a dispute with a local dealership and in the course of our conversation the operator took my name, address and VIN. This registered me in GM records so that I would be contacted in regards to any future recalls or safety issues.

She told me there were 2 open recalls on my Corvette and recommended that I take the car to a dealership to have the fixes. The column lock recall was done prior to my purchase of the car, but apparently the paperwork was not completed. She told me this was no problem, the dealership would simply inspect the work to verify it was done and done properly and then sign off on it. The lap belt recall I knew nothing about.

This isn't an issue with owners that buy their Corvettes new - they're already registered. But for all of us "previously owned" buyers, it seems to me to be a good idea to get your name and VIN on the books.

GM Customer Service number is 1-800-222-1020.

Hope this helps.
Happy Holidays to all!

The road is waiting for you.

JAG,

You can also go to the My GMLink Owners Center. You can register your Corvette there, and they will notify you by email if a recall is announced which affects your vehicle.

I went to that site and it seemed that Corvettes were not on their participating list and did not make any entry. Lew w

GM Corvette Registry

I was able to register my Corvette some time ago on the GM registry mentioned above. I wonder what's going on.

I went to the My GMLink site today, and I got flashed a message that the site was temporarily down for maintenance. They suggested trying back in 24-36 hours.

makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! bought my 2001 Z06 from the same GM delaer I have went to since 1986 - there is no record of my car ever been serviced, etc. at the dealer! and Ijust had an oil change there! so much for getting notified of anything by GM!

I bought a used C5 about a year ago and as far as I know I never notified GM but when the Column Lock recall came around they found me and I got it in the mail! I think they somehow get notified through registration!

Folks, the My GMLink site doesn't work that way. It isn't updated regularly with input from dealers where you've taken your vehicle for service. What it does is keep track of regularly scheduled appointments, anything of a service nature you should be aware of about your vehicle, and updates records for service as you have it done. For me, the biggest benefit is that it advises of you any recall that may be active for your vehicle- in most cases, before mailed notices reach owners. You'll have a heads up on getting recall work completed.

Besides this, the My GMLink site also features a number of really cool things you can access like wallpaper and screen savers. It's free, and IMHO, it's worth the couple of minutes it takes to join.

Bill, did you previously register there? If not, there's a link on the page (near the top, if memory serves) for a new registration. You will need to create your own user name and password, and then, when prompted, information on your Corvette.

Patirck,

I tried to set up a user name and password and it came back, not account found or something to that effect. Maybe I am doing something wrong; I will check it out again, but it did not allow me to access the site at all. Don;t know what the problem is.

Thanks,
Bill :w

Hmm...
Bill, when you navigate there, in the lower left hand quadrant of the screen, you should see box where you are to enter your user name and password. Below these, there is a link that says "forgot log in info?"

Have you tried clicking on that? If you are an already registered member, it should be able to identify you by your email address.

Let me know if this doesn't work.

Patrick I think I just got in here; they are supose to e-mail me a password.

Thanks again,
Bill :w

Bill, glad you got in okay. You may want to try selecting the "remember my log in info" box from the main page- it might save you have to remember an odd user name and password every time you want to log in.

And while you're there, check out some of the cool downloads they have- I use the screen saver at work. I love looking at C5s flashing on the screen when I return to my desk after a meeting. :D
