This may not be news to you but it was something I hadn't considered, and I'm posting it here for anyone else that may be unaware.
I called GM Customer Service over a dispute with a local dealership and in the course of our conversation the operator took my name, address and VIN. This registered me in GM records so that I would be contacted in regards to any future recalls or safety issues.
She told me there were 2 open recalls on my Corvette and recommended that I take the car to a dealership to have the fixes. The column lock recall was done prior to my purchase of the car, but apparently the paperwork was not completed. She told me this was no problem, the dealership would simply inspect the work to verify it was done and done properly and then sign off on it. The lap belt recall I knew nothing about.
This isn't an issue with owners that buy their Corvettes new - they're already registered. But for all of us "previously owned" buyers, it seems to me to be a good idea to get your name and VIN on the books.
GM Customer Service number is 1-800-222-1020.
Hope this helps.
Happy Holidays to all!
