Valve-Open Duration & Intake Plenum Questions

Next Question... What type tappets on stock LT-1 ?

Folks, I know I am getting you sick & tired with my questions. But this is all due to Ken :L who gave me reading materials and got me into this awful habit of understanding how the engine works... Darn :mad .

Here is the question; what type tappets (lifters) does the 95 LT-1 stock engine have (my engine of course...). I think they have the rollers (not flat). Are they mechanical rollers or hydraulic rollers?

Ken, thanks a million my friend.

Selim,

You're thinking about modding, aren't you? What are you going to do?:D

No no no... Ed, one of the last things I will do to my car is modify it. I am in the learning mode. I have this bad habit of going into details as soon as I start learning about something that I like. I do not give up until I sort out the last finite question.

I have been reading quite a bit since Ken gave me guidance on where to look for information. I check what I learn against what my Corvette has. So far I have found it has pretty good stuff already installed on it. Independant Runner type plenum, Hydraulic Roller type lifters, and so on. I do not intend to fiddle around with the car unles I can convince myself that I can plan and execute an extensive mod.

And remember, I am in Turkey where resources are limited, after all it will be in the hands of a repair guy who believes he knows everything. Parts are expensive and lead times are also long. Not worth the trouble buddy.

Selim,

Just do the work yourself!:D

They sell the LT1 to LT4 conversion kit. It has the heads, cam, intake, 1.6 roller rockers and some other stuff. I think it's $3200 or so and you're supposed to get 425hp out of it.

That stuff is cheaper in the states. We have many machine shops that could do the work for you and even if you did the work yourself, the shipping isn't bad. I think it's the shipping overseas that really gouges your wallet.

Ed,

What is the web address to suppliers of such complete kits? would be nice to have them in my archive for future reference. Just in case :)

Selim,

Here are a couple of sites:

www.jegs.com

www.summitracing.com

Also, do a search for Scoggins Dickey and General Motors Performance Parts. Not sure if they still stock the LT1 to LT4 conversion kit but they sell high performance parts.

Ed,

I found the conversion kits at Scoggins Dickey & General Motors. Unfortunately current depth of my pockets do not allow a quick attempt to this type of thing. Have one kid in college, second one getting ready for it.

Kit price is between US$2,200 - 2,500 range. Include some contingency for additional parts, shipping and labour, this becomes approximately US$5K project in Turkey conditions. I would go with GM if I did this type of thing, since they are the OEM.

May be in the future. A deep sighhhh :cry

Just have them hold off college for one semester!:L Just kidding.:D
