2006 Vert Monterey Red
I have a 2006 c6 vert with auto trans and am having problem when lowering the top. When the top is about half way down it hangs up. I have to take my hand and push up on the plastic cover and hear a popping sound like it is catching on something than it will lower. I plan on taking it to the dealer for a fix under warranty. Has this happened to anyone? What is the fix?

Assuming you have a power convertible top, are you sure you're letting the mechanism fully cylcle? I ask because it seems that the top stops about halfway through the process and you're not supposed to take your finger off the DOWN side of the switch until it completely finishes and the 'clamshell' locks into the closed position with the top underneathe. I was initially confused by this process until I reread the manual. The trick is DO NOT take your finger off the switch - however you can disengage the switch as I often do when I wash the car and then towel it off. Then you can engage the DOWN saide of the switch and it will continue the down process.
Hope this helps.

The plastic cover that covers the cloth top in the down position.

I understand what you say. This is a power top. I hold the down button through the complete down cycle and locking procedure. It hangs up halfway through this operation. I hope this makes it clear. I did find some of the carpet like material pealed back near the driver side top hinge. This was rubbing on the top material causing small wrinkles in the top material. I pushed this back into place but it still hangs up.

Hi there,
There is a TSB for resetting the tonneau latch.
My theory is that this is what caused your condition.
I believe its in the knowledgebase here, but if not, let us know and we can repost it.

This is the results as printed from the INVOICE from the Chevrolet repair service dept.

"6240 Rear trunk cover contacting top cover while operating convertible top, the cover is binding against rear trunk cover. Remove rear trunk cover and adjust cover, and lid stops."
I have only raised and lowered the top two times after the repair and the power top seems to work great with no problems.

This problem started AFTER I used a floor jack to raise car and remove the right front tire-wheel to clean dirt from the wheel and also apply polish to the wheel. I thought that jacking the car might have flexed the frame-body and caused the misalingment. I say this because the problem occured after I jacked the car.

As always thanks for your help.

Similar top problem

I have had a similar problem. When lowering the top the deck lid will not latch straight up to allow the top to lower. When the deck lid does not latch, bothe the top and the deck lid will come together and either catch the latch on the convas or slam the latch against the glass. The dealer has worked on this four times while replacing the hinges three times. This car has spent weeks and weeks in for repair. I would like to hear a solution too.

Listen, you have a new car warranty so take it to the dealer and let them fix it. they are trained to do it or they will pick up on it right away. I had a similiar problem, well, actually, my car has been in the shop 3-4 times in the last 16 months for various problems. Several times the top operation is sequenced in the computer and usually has to be reprogrammed/re-sequenced in order to operate correctly. Most times that I had to bring the car back was because of something I did directly or indirectly. It seems the computer is very, very "touchy". Otherwise, I love the damn thing and wouldn't give it up for a manual for anything.

Hi Purple Heart

As posted on 6-23-06 the problem was fix under warranty and now the power top work just great and I am very happy. Like you, I would not give this option. Sometimes people will stare when I operate the power top and make comments about how cool it is. I have to agree.

psimms,

RIGHT ON ABOUT THE TOP-LOL! People really do stare when that thing goes up or down-the car is Magical-it makes you feel like you're worth a zillion dollars; what a mind trip the damn car is.
You know, I recall reading somewhere when someone wrote that driving in a Corvette is like wearing a superman suit; you feel like you're invincible, like there isn't anything you can't do!
Take care and enjoy the ride!

psimms, Glad to hear you got the problem fixed. I was driving the 04 CE LMB Coupe next to you and my wife had the 06 Silver Vert behind you at "Vetts in the Village" (Sandestin) I still have that darn rattle in her Vert.
