I have a 1998 with 54k - was running fine when I drove her last week. It was parked in the garage with the top down and I went out to take her out for a drive three days later, I hit the starter NOTHING, the starter did not engage, as if it was a totally dead battery. I received the following on the display: "Reduced Power, Check Tire Monitoring System, Service Engine Soon, Low Fuel". I pulled the codes from the DIC and have the following:

10 -PCM - P1518 PCM to TAC Module Processor
40-BCM- Body Control Module - No COMM
60-IPC - U1040 - Loss Of Communication with TCS
60-IPC - U1160 - Loss of Communication with LDCM
60-IPC - U1176 - Loss of Communicaton with RFA
99-HVAC - No COMM
A0-LDCM - B2284 Battery #2 Fault
A0 LDCM - U1064 - Loss of Communications with BCM
A1-RDCM - B2285 Battery #2 Fault
A1-RDCM - U1064 Loss of Communications with BCM

The only thing out of the ordinary that I tried a couple of weeks ago was to install a Jet Performance Chips Power Control Module (PCM). When I installed it and tried to start the car I received similiar codes, so I removed it. After clearing all the codes and starting the car it worked fine until this. Does anyone have a similar experience? Does anyone have a solution based on this information? Do I need a new BCM - PCM - ?????

PLEASE HELP!!

Nylben,
You say you started getting error messages. Can you tell what those error messages were?

-Patrick

Reduced engine power - check ABS - Check tire warning - IPC codes - HVAC codes - you name it, I think I got it!

HI there,
It would seem to me that you have a communications problem within the control systems.
This would create the condition and the messages that you have listed.
Does anything work???? Doors, transmitters, locks, windows?????
Allthebest, c4c5

The door locks, windows, trunk lock and seat memory do not work - the car activates the door locks by itself now intermittently (about every 30 +/- seconds).

HI there,
Based on the NOCOMM from the BCM, there must be an issue there.
You can see from the codes above, that the other modules are communicating with the IPC, in order to give you codes.
Do you have the electronic climate control for the HVAC or do you have the switches and dials with no digital display???
It could be a bad power or ground, or when the aftermarket program was uploaded, it could have caused a internal processor issue with the BCM.
I would make sure that all your fuses are good. Make sure also that the AC is not leaking water onto the toe board.
Let us know what you have, because without the BCM, you will NEVER start your vehicle.
Allthebest, c4c5

I do have the climate control and will check the grounds & fuses - I have no issue with any water leaking on the toe board - I am assuming that the BCM is fried and will have to replace and reprogram? Do you think that I can reflash the computer to reset?
I REALLY appreciate your input and will keep yo posted as to the outcome - I miss my car!!!!!!

Ben

Hi there,
Well, honestly, sometimes, removing the negative battery cable for 5 mins will sometimes bring the BCM back.
However, I have never seen it as a permanent fix.
Give it a shot and let us know how you make out, c4c5

I tried removing the negative cable without any positive results (play on words there). I have ordered a new BCM and PCM. Which do you think I should try first? I understand that the BCM will work for about 100 miles before it needs to be programmed. I would need that to try and get it to a dealer that I can trust.

Have you tried a new battery? The electrical systems in these cars act pretty crazy when the battery drains down. My 99 was acting like it was possessed until a new battery was added. Seems one of the internal cells went bad and there was no warning, much like you describe. Batteries are much cheaper than BCM/PCM's to replace. I'd try that first.

Leon

HI there,
Based on what you have posted, I would NOT replace the PCM at this point.
It is communicating, so that is not the issue.
DO NOT attempt to drive on a BCM that is not programmed, because the PASSKEY values will NOT be set and you will not be able to start the vehicle anyway.
This value must be learned when you install a BCM.
Allthebest, c4c5

Received the new BCM today - should have it in the car tomorrow and have a tech program it using the tech 2 and GM computer. Cross your fingers :)))

Well, everything seems to be back to normal (whew) - THANK YOU C4C5 SPECIALIST - you really saved the day. I live in a town of about 7000 (nearsest 'vette shop is in Denver, about 300 miles away). With your help and analysis, I was able to give a GM tech at a local dealership the information that you had passed along. With that, and my shop manuals, he was able to program the new BCM and get the car back on the road. Thanks again.

What, coming to Denver would be a bad thing? :L

Nylben, I'm happy to hear you're woes have found a resolution. Congrats! Now, go get enjoying the summer in your Vette! (And don't forget to wave!)
