Vinyl paint for Steering Wheel Spokes?

I have a 1980 L82 with a worn steering wheel, leather is in "acceptable" shape but the spokes are in poor condition. The black paint is peeling from the spokes to show an ugly and rusted metal. I have a brand new and original (if that makes sense) steering wheel from a '78 but it has the silver satin spokes. The question I have is if I were to clean, prep, and paint the silver spokes with black SEM vinyl paint will it last and look original? I also don't want to ruin the '78 wheel if it won't work.
Any help is appreciated.

Probably, if done correctly.

...and look original?...

That would depend on the quality of your work.

Why not sell the '78 wheel to a '78 owner and redo your original 80 wheel?

:)
