Hello everyone,

Just recently changed out the bad alternator in my 88' and the volts are running consistently at 13.8 Is that good enough?

i sprayed paint my alt chrome

and now its making a noise in the bearings,, jeeze

i put some oil on it, i will see if this fix's it

well crap

my alt just went out,, i drove home today on my battery


i alays thoguht my lite was coming on cause i was using more juice then i was putting out,, but really i wasn't it was just warning me


but i guess that lite means my alt isn't putting out the volts

i was putting out 10.5


if it puts out 10.5 can this make me lose performace on my engine
cause its been like this for liek 7 months and it finally went out

Are you just kidding or what?

Do you know why they call it an idiot light?
Do you know why they sell the battery as a 12v and not a 10.5v?
Do you know why most people don't put paint in their alternator?

But hey--this is all covered in the Haynes manual, in chapter 4, subsection 3, paragraph 8, verses 6-12. After all, it is the only book you will ever need to know everything there is to know about a stock engine :SLAP

acctually

the other day i did need the stock guide
cause i lost a bolt
and i needed to know what size it was."it took me forever to find the size". so i guess i do need one of those books
hopefully i can get one off ebay for 20 bucks



well the car ran fine fo rlike a year or so
and i guess i really jus tnever thought about it
it just started doing 10.5 today

it used to do liek 12 i think

Hey all Im under the impression that 12.5-14.5 is the "green" limits. Am I correct? I need to know because Im setting up my Capacitor soon and I need to know what to look for (Especially considering Im running a 2 week old Alternator)

Right now at a LONG idle I run 12.5 when driving or as soon as I hit the gas I get into the mid 13's. When Stereos pumpin I run 12.8-13.0 and at a LONG Idle with Stereo on the car wants to die LOL at high 11's:Roll
