77 new wiper washer pump not working and wipers only operate at one speed. Where is the relay for the wipers?

It's most likely the same as my 75, there is no wiper relay.

Do you have the delay/intermittent function on your wipers? Not sure if this went as far back as 1977, but the early ones had the controller in the centre console somewhere and the later versions (like in the 80 I have) were moved into the jack box. If it is the intermittent type of wiper, you should be able to recognise the controller by it's metal relay case and a big aluminium heat sink clipped onto it...

Two speed

I think it's a two speed, the switch seems to have three positions. it may be built into the wiper motor. Thanks for the input, have a great Holiday and God bless the USA.

Ahh.. I'm not so sure about that then! If the wipers work at one speed, then perhaps the relay (if it exists, wherever it is) is ok - could be problem with the switch. Do you get only high speed, or only low speed? Without a wiring diagram it's a bit hard to diagnose, but if I were you I'd check for 12V at one of the washer pump terminals, and for ground at the other, with the washer button pressed. Is the 77 old enough to have the pump inside the wiper motor? If so, then I'm gonna run out of knowledge on this!

FWIW,

Mine took a dump on me as well..same scenario only one speed....And I have delay. Never the less, I replaced the motor and pump assy. which is all in one but serviceable and all is well.BTW, i got mine from the dealer and the washer section came with it Some aftermarket units dont .It was easier to start with new parts than to rebuild the old stuff.I found the switch to be alright ...the motor sees much more wear than the switch ;) Quite often I see the switch mis-diagnosed as faulty when its the pump or motor assy.

Just my .02 :CAC

Yeah fair point about the switch being commonly mis-diagnosed - I guess if dodgy connections or wear and tear is gonna occur anywhere, then under the hood would be the first place.
tazdevl35, I'm curious about your washer pump... is that on the late C3 in your sig.? I thought all the later ones had a seperate pump on the washer bottle (but hey, I can only go by what I see on my 80) :)

My washer /wiper switch is seperate as I remember. Car is in the garage at work so I have to look but I'm pretty sure its seperate from the signal. Also, my 89 wiper switch is seperate as well, but the 91 has it on the signal. The 89 and 91 have a seperate pump in the washer bottle.

Later,:w

The pump on the 77 is on the bottle. I think the relay is built into the wiper motor. I'll check that voltage at the pump and the ground. It's Probably the best place to start, Thanks and God bless the USA.
