water pump bypass on 65 small block

Just got a replacement water pump for my 65 small block. it doesn't have the top port for the bypass hose to the intake. Anyone have any opinion on plugging the intake and running without it?

Sounds like they sold you a pump for an earlier engine. I'd return it and get the correct pump.
