If you are talking about the upper left connection on the water pump, that can leak from the pump side. With the hose jammed up against the aluminum housing it would look like a hose leak. The steel coupling is pressed in there and possibly glued or sealed with some stuff. I have just recently had an unfortunate experience with a brand new pump from NAPA related to that coupling. I put the pump on and three days later the entire coupling blew out of the pump body. Dumped all my coolant in short order as you could imagine.
The really bad part was that I had just punched it to pass a slow moving pickup truck that was irritating me getting on the freeway. With my right foot firmly implanted within the throttle body (so to speak), and after gaining a few car lengths on him I glanced up into my rearview mirror. I noted the HUGE cloud of fog behind me, illuminated by his headlights. Since I had just put a new pump on I figured it was coming from my vette and was probably coolant related, started watching the temp guage and coasted back off the on-ramp and into a liquor store located about a half mile down the service road. When I saw it was the coupling I jammed it back into the hole as tight as I could get it and tied it up with some string, left the radiator cap loose so as not to build pressure and proceeded into the liquor store for a bucket of water. amazingly I was able to limp it home w/no probs. The string held!
Good luck
