Weatherstrip, rear hatch 95 coupe

I recently purchased a 95 ZR-1 which has a bad hatch seal. The weatherstrip appears to be manufactured an inch too short in both directions , and has come apart in one corner. The rubber seal has also broken free of the continuous plastic "U" clip which holds the seal in position. I removed everything and found no use of weatherstrip achesive, but I did find a yellow grease-like substance inside the c-clip.
I purchased an aftermarket weatherstrip, and it too appears to be short about the same amount. HELP!

I found the same yellow stuff when I replaced mine....look like a lithium type of grease that I'll assume they use to install the weather-strip. It may appear short but if you're installing it and it's warm outside you'll notice the ability to fit the strip into place and the grease allows some movement. I had to work the strip from the center top towards the bottom two edges until it fit. Took a little while but it worked out. Do not stretch too far at one time but a gentle pushing with your hand will do the trick. I also had to remove the side decorative trim prior to installing the new strip.

Art's Corvette Parts have the OEM strip for something like US$150.

My 2 cents is to always use the OEM parts for weatherstrips.

I agree, except with the hatch strip. I did a write up some time back about quality of weather stripping and my experiences. The rear hatch is no problem but the top, halo and windshield are a must for OEM. If money is no object then OEM is the way to go all the way around.

I agree with this. I bought hatch WS from Wilcox and so far [2 years] its still good. Cost less than $100.
Everything other than hatch, I'd use OEM or similar quality.

I was able to get OEM from GM for just under 100. I think it was 97.xx
