Looks like I need to replace my water pump, weeping out hole. My question is what is the best to use, should I go GM at $150.00 or is there an after market that is better and less expensive?
My daily driver 87 has one that came from Pep Boy's. It was less that $50 new. Been on it over 100K miles now. Don't know if is any better or worse than than GM but was cheaper and they had it when we walked in. Temp seem OK on the road.

A pumps a pump. Just when you buy it make sure theres no cracks in the casting and the motion of the impeller is kinda stiff.
One more thing to look for it the flange that fits to the timing cover. Sometimes the casting is uneven or real thin make sure this doesn't happen to you or it'll leak.
What I always do as a insurance policy is (Using Gasket silicone) make a line around the entire flange (Including bolt holes) then place the gasket on then use 2 bolts to hold it steady. Now use silicone again around the perimeter of the gasket. (Of course using fine lines NOT gobbs of the stuff).
Now install the pump and tighten the bolts as you would a tire.(It not circular but you get the idea) This will ensure a proper seal. Now this is kinda important....GO HAVE A SMOKE, A BEER Whatever!. Let the silicone set for at least an hour (I like 2-3 hours better) BEFORE you reinstall the coolant.
This is also a GREAT time to replace rad hoses, the thermostat, temp sensors, heater cores, etc...
This is just a general statement for anyone hope it helps.
