We unplugged the EST and checked the timing, and it was right on 6 degrees advanced. We bumped it up to 10, drove it and heard spark knock, backed it off to 8, still spark knock, so it is back at 6 degrees. I decided to Gtech it and got, 207, 149, 230, 213. The 230 run I left it in overdrive and just floored it. the 213 run I put it in 1 and powerbraked it, and manually shifted. I am curious to see what my bros car will pull when we re check it again this summer. I AM VERY UNHAPPY.

I like my GTech, it's not right on with the HP, but the times are pretty close.

I will say that if the unit is not set up level in the car, things can be way way off, but overall I like mine.

What are those numbers refering to, HP?

Yeah the 230 one is alright, I just don't understand the others especially the 149 reading I got. I decided to run it 1/4 mile and 0-60 I got 5.69 for 0-60, and 14.36@99.2 MPH. There is like 1200 miles on this motor. Will it gets faster as I build up the miles? And if so how much am I going to gain?

Another thing, I still can't figure out why my car can't take any timing :confused. I have always ran 93 octane from BP. Could it be because I buy it from two different BP gas stations? I just can't believe this car is that picky on gas....

You had it rebuilt to stock specs, right?

1200 miles is kind of broken in so I wouldn't expect to see much more power, if any.

Can't you see that this is a sign to start collecting the go fast goodies.:D

Yeah no doubt. I have to get the headers ordered, and find the roller rockers I need to get. I still have the coolant appearing. It is back in both places so I guess it is off to the shops to see what they say, im sure that will be a wonder battle....

Could also be a good time to take the heads off and get them ported and polished!:D

Check out the Summit brand of roller rockers. I hear that they are made by Crane of Comp Cams, just repackaged and sold for less by Summit. I forgot who told me but he said they even have Crane of Comp Cams stamped on the Summit brand rockers. And don't get 1.5's, get the 1.6's.

A little here and a little there will start to add up.

Something is weird. He has ram air, ported plenum, chip, and his engine is bored because of the rebuild. This car wont even chirp the tires from a dead stop. Hell my car with a ton of miles will still light the tires up easily. He still have poor throttle response, which could hurt on the timed events.

Yeah, something is wrong there. I have 102K on mine and I can light up the SZ50's all day long.

It's these type of typical problems that come with age that have me thinking LS1/6 later this year. I just can't mentally deal with all the problems, nor can my wallet slowly be eroded from all these problems.

It's not a knock on GM or Corvette because it's the plain simple fact that our cars are getting old and these problems are normal.

Yeah, I just might have to bite the bullet and get a new TPS sensor and maybe a new IAC. I am not sure what to do, I bumped up the timing and it started to knock.... ;shrug

not all motors like timing. some knock at 6 degrees advanced and others not till after 14 advanced. it's just one of those things.

Chip, you said it there. Where did it come from? Change it back to the stock prom and see how it runs.

I have zero experience with aftermarket proms. What I read on the forums, unless you spend days and have know how you can go backwards easy. A lightly moded MAF TPI will work with the stock prom.

The chip has the advance curve in it. Aftermarket is more than likely more agressive than stock, why it pings with more base timing.

Make sure the tube seals good between the MAF and throtle body.

Yep, that's them. Some people just get the roller tipped ones but I would just go for full roller.

They have the Summit Brand ones that are like $280. I tried to find the post where I asked people about the Summit brand but I can't find it.

harlan sharps are full roller and only 200 bucks :D

Okay so it was like 55 degrees here, and after I put the stock chip back in I decided to take it for a drive, with the top down of course :cool . The chip didn't improve the bad throttle response, which wasn't a big suprise to me, so I put the other one back in. So after I get back I am thinking, and am like well I wonder how dirty the air filter is, so I looked, and to my suprise it was pretty dirty. So I removed the inlet tube right before the MAF, and most of the throttle response went away, according to my brother, it sounded like his car did. So I immediatly ripped off the filter, and cleaned it. We will see in a couple of days if that was the problem, I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Second thing. Are those Roller Rockers worth 325? If not anyone know of ones that are cheaper Mic you said Harlans were 200, where can I get them?

Next thing, me and my brother went out for a little cruise before I took my air filter off and I was in front of him on a two lane road doing about 25, so I dropped it into low 1 and canned it, and he did the same. Suprisingly we stayed pretty much even all the way till about 75-80ish when we had to back off due to traffic, and a police officer. When we got home he Gteched his car and got HP readings around 248ish. He then ran 0-60 and got something like 5.12. I am confused why we hung together from a 25 roll, but when we were stopped at a light and we both nailed it from a dig he made it look like I was standing still. Hopefully the clean air filter will help to even the playing ground. Sorry this was so long, thought you guys would like to know my findings.

I did a search for those Harlans but couldn't find them.

The roller rockers are nice but I don't think they're $325 nice. Summit has a $180 set.

I'll do some looking at Jeg's.
