Just a small question...why in the world do you need an SUV in Florida??!!:confused As others have said, it's crazy when you don't need one with the way gas prices are today...and only going to be higher priced!!

I agree with most of the others...keep the Vette!

Maybe that is why I don't have a girfriend... If a girl I was with ever said I spend to much time with my car, or wanted me to sell it, I think it would be buh bye girlfriend. DONT SELL THE VETTE!!!

:L:L:L Same here but I'll also apply that to my guitars and guns, they're untouchable and they're an extension of me. :D

Yeah, I want to get a gun permit, when I turn 18. Don't want to hijack the thread but what steps do I have to go through to get one. If you want Edmond just PM me, my mom thinks im nuts, but my dad agrees with my thinking so I'm not sure yet.

Best bet is to ditch the Saturn and get a replacement vehicle for it. If you're looking for an SUV (that isn't a beer can with wheels) but still want decent mileage, it's not going to happen without work. My wife's Suburban knocks down 17 around town and gets over 20 on the highway which is pretty good for a fullsize SUV. All I did was bend up some duals for it (after the cats) and add a K&N air filter (OE replacement type).

The reason most people get SUVs these days is because they want the utility and perceived safety they offer. The preferred "Mom's Taxi" way back when was the station wagon. I've always thought a mid 90's Caprice wagon would be a cool family type vehicle that blended utility and performance if properly done by a car guy. Daimler Chrysler apparently thinks the same way with the new Magnum station wagon (pretty cool looking ride with the right wheels).
I hope it works out for you, as do we all here.

Damn sad to kick your Vette to the curb for a fricken jeep do what ya gotta I guess:confused

I traded my wife's Durango in on my 01'. She drives my Chevy pickup now. That's a pretty fair deal, right?

Keep the Vette! As for the vehicle you need for room etc...Look @ used mini-vans as a possibility. You can find 2000 models low mileage for some very good prices. I know I 'd bee willing to drive just about anything to keep my Vette

  • Selling a C4 now is a no win. C4s will never be worth less than they are today. When I moved to Europe the 82 was worth next to nothing, having sold Vettes and regretted it I gave the 82 to my Son. Today it is probably worth almost as much as I paid for it new. If you hang on to the Vette it will be worth much more in the future.
  • I have owned lots of SUV/4WD things and every one of them including the GMCs were over priced – expensive to insure – gas guzzling – always needing high priced repairs - hard to find a parking spot for pigs. The worst of the lot was the Jeep. For the gas it burns there is no space inside and the transfer case went south at 40K miles. The best was the Tahoe but I was happy to see it go as well. We have the GoKart track which requires a lot of hauling stuff about and the farm that is ½ swamp ½ mountain. Between the two I have never found the need to use 4WD which is the reason that we now own a Pontiac van and the old 2WD S10.
  • To haul around the dogs, boats and future brats look at a van. All of the big 3 plus the Japs build a good van that is a much better value for the $$$ than a SUV and a van is easier to drive and park.
  • The SO should appreciate the Vette. A Vette wife always knows where her man is. As my wife tells her friends when they criticize the quaintly of cars and bikes that I keep ¨Your man has 1 car and 9 girlfriends – my man has one woman and 9 cars! ¨

This is a fun place to be. I like these the most among other good suggestions:

1. Dump the lady, keep the Corvette;LOL

IF THIS IS NOT AN OPTION, SEE ITEM 2 BELOW:

2. Dump the Saturn & she gets the Jeep, you keep the Vette. Win/Win :beer

Cheers,

Selim

You live in Florida. What the heck do ya need an SUV for? Under what conditions where you drive will it be necessary to use 4wd or awd. Your just asking for less gas mileage, higher insurance rates (over a regular family vehicle, not the vette maybe) and more moving parts for something to screw up on. Keep the vette, buy a dependable family vehicle like a Taurus or Impala. You'll live to regret it. Once you start family, there will always be something (diapers, braces, tuition) to keep you from getting another vette until the kids are finally all grown. Ask me how I know.

:(

I agree 100% Don't get rid of the 'Vette and dont buy an SUV.

You're already regretting the idea of selling the Vette before it has even left your driveway and you're doing the best you can to convince yourself that this is the practical decission to make for your situation right now. I promise you 100% that this will come up again in future arguments with your lady. That you gave up YOUR Vette for her. Eventually, you will have no Vette and no lady! Keep the Vette, keep your sanity. Keep the dogs & keep your lady, give up the kayak and start shopping for a nice used car or small SUV to trade the Saturn in. If your budget is that tight now, you're not financially ready for "familyhood" anyway. Depending on how many kids you both decide (or accidently) to have, it will be 20-25 years before you will ever see a Vette in your driveway. I speak from experience.;)

Please Read

The best thing ever happened last night before we even talked. I was reading posts on CAC and my lady happened to look over my shoulder and peek at the screen while we were sitting in bed. I tried to exit the screen but she must of seen something that intrigued her. So she grabbed the laptop and began from the beginning reading all the posts. After she was done reading she simply told me she had no idea that the vette was such a big deal in my life. We talked a while about our goals in life and decided that the vette stays at least until 2006 and then we will reassess out lives. We are now looking for a 3rd vehicle to have for the dogs, the kayak, and to take a few miles off the vette.
I just want to thank everyone for being honest in their posts. She also thanks you too. She understands that within the CAC community I have tremendous respect for everyone and consider you all friends and i value your opinions as she does now.
Thank you,
Shane

Shane, your lady is a KEEPER! Don't let her get away. I am very impressed by her understanding and dedication to your relationship, for both of you and your Corvette passion. I think she is TOPS!

I had a feeling that something like this would happen. Enjoy the Vette, your girlfriend and your life!!

That is good news to hear!:cool

She's a keeper...

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

i noted from your original post (or there abouts) that you are college age. i give you both credit for being mature beyond your years (at least in my opinion). i'm 61 and see a lot of young folks (gosh that sounds like i really fit into the geezer catagory, doesn't it??) who haven't even begun to take themselves seriously let alone trying to figure out where they are going, what their goals are, and how they are planning to arrive at their destination.

i hope you realize that most of the input you received from those of us that replied to this post was based on our own experiences and various states of remorse experienced when faced with having to make a similar decision regarding our corvettes along our life's path. i know for me, i had my first vette, a 69 convertible when i was in my early 30's (and you could buy a good used vette, less than 10 years old for under $3500.00). i drove it for a few years and sold it without thinking much about it. it had always been my life's goal to have a corvette, so i guess i figured i had achieved that goal. i was sorry i sold it within a week of watching it pull away. it took me almost 20 years to be able to afford my next one in 1993. while i live comfortably, there is no way i will sell myself to the devil or go into serious hock, to be able to afford a new C6, so i enjoy the older ones and realize that they were built to be enjoyed also!! i do know this however, regardless of which one it is (i prefer C3s and C4s personally), there won't be a time in my life until i leave this earth, if i have anything to say about it, that i won't own a corvette!!

you have a very understanding lady to say the least!! make sure you hang on to both the vette and the lady, you can't go wrong with that decision.
