Keep you BOTH happy
It's always best to keep your lady vehicle-happy, but there is a line to draw. I say keep the Vette, but have her understand (and you try to keep it so) that it is not the money pit or affair she sees it as. You might have to go for a while with the car as-is; no new wheels or exhaust or whatever.
It is nice to have two cars that can seat more than two, with kids. That way the constant 'problem' of "that darned two-seater" doesn't arise. You may want something 'nicer' than the older Saturn if you go out with other couples, too. Insurance and other costs make the car toy expensive.
Warranty or no, I am years from considering any Korean car. I don't need a car in the shop, no matter who pays for it. Carefully research the reliability of ANY car; Jeeps included. Check the employee pricing on Saturns, if you want an SUV. The sales slump makes new cars quite financially attractive, over lease returns, used or former rentals. Many folks like the high sitting seats for improved visibility. Maybe she'd be happy with a new Saturn SUV.
The best car is one that is not a month cash alligator. I have spreadsheets for each of my cars that break our month ownership costs. They show the shift from depreciation to maintenance costs, but lessen with the right car choice. For a car-guy like me, it helps keep the urges at bay. My wife accepts my car passion, but it cannot take oo much toll on family chores and needs.
