Had nothing much to do so I pulled off the choke housing cover and cleaned the plate and coil (after all it's 40 years old). Put it back in and now engine has to run for 20-25 minutes before it idles down. Carter AFB. Have it set at the middle setting not 1-notch lean. I guess if it ain't broke don't mess with it. :nono Thanks.

Did you makes sure the cork gasket between the main body and the choke housing is in place? The choke actually "pulls off" from this vacuum -against the tension of the spring. If this gasket is not in place, the choke will not open or hardly open.

If that little gasket is not in place try setting it another notch or two leaner. You may have been over compensating if the choke was sticking somewhat before you cleaned it. Brian

Thanks Brian, the gasket is in place but it is quite flat. I should probably replace it just to be safe. I'll lean it out if that doesn't help.

Gasket is important, but don't overtighten the three screws that hold the housing cover. My butterfly will hang up if these are too tight. Good luck and let us know what you find. If it ran good before at correct setting, then you shouldn't have to change settings to fix problem.

My choke is still set 5 notches lean. I make it richer when the temps get to 30-40F.

I have a new gasket and spring on order from LIC. Will let you know what happens in a day or so. Thanks

The new gasket worked. I didn't use the new spring because the new one had 5 coils to the 4 on the old one. It just wouldn't line up to work.
