What do you think of this 74 thats for sale? Paint 2 years old, supposedly no rust (every seller tells me that), new interior, numbers matching, 93,000 miles, always garaged, 76 rear bumper replaced before repaint, car was stored for 10 years before this owner purchased 3 years ago, ss brakes, original suspension, supposed to run great. Check out pictures at http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ssekaz and post your thoughts. Anything not look right, what would you say it is worth if as described? Thanks for any help!

Does it have the L82 motor? 4 speed or auto trans? It does look nice but I've seen nice ones that were rust nightmares. Depending upon the above mentioned I'd say any where from $8500 - 12500.

As a third owner of a 74 coupe make sure you look over the car real good. You should check for rust on the frame, windshield frame and radiator support area. You want to check for any signs of body damage or frame repairs.
You want to check the paint code numbers, engine numbers etc if you are looking for a matching numbers car. Always remember buyer beware on cars that people pass off as matching numbers cars for sale. Good luck on your search.

In my opinion they all look good from that far away. In addition to all of the above suggestions keep in mind that there is a lot of stuff that just rots away on an old car.
Close inspection is the key. What shape is the suspension in ? The A frame bushings, stabilizer bar bushings, the ball joints, weather stripping, the shims were the trailing arms pivot in the frame. When was the last time the rear wheel bearings were serviced. This is all stuff that deteriorates on a car that is this old. You need to figure out how much money you will need to invest to get the car to the condition you want.
The purchase price and the amount to restore never equal the value of the car. It is a labor of love and you just have to figure out how in love you are.

Kaz: Looks like a nice car...L-48 base engine- 4 spd w/air, manual windows, non-tilt/telescopic steering wheel with base vinyl interior but upgraded seats = probably the "leather-like" covers. decent repaint- although it doesn't look like they were ALL that careful given the paint-over on the door and latch bolts-- nice job of cleaning up the engine bay.... maybe a new rear sping or shocks given the ride height of the rear. Feel the center of the wheel-well arches to see if it was repaired. It's logical to replace the rear panel- most cracked a some point nose & tail.
A good shop can put it up in the air and you'll learn a lot that paint and bolt on interior pieces just won't tell. A nice car- not a collectible year, but probably a fun driver if it's solid. $7500's a deal, ten's probably too much for a mid-west car.
Course, my opinion and a quarter'll refill your coffee mug.

The post has the description of the Vette I'm selling but has the incorrect pictures. The details of the car are accurate and it was checked on Saturday buy a potential buyers mechanic and passed with flying colors. Steve,if this is about the yellow 1974 I have please contact me again. Thanks Fred

i purchased my 74 for $4,500. When i got it, the motor was the only thing appearing to need work besides a little interior work and a broken piece of fiberglass. Since, I have spent over $10,000 more just getting it to be a decent daily driver. This includes: new interior, rebuilt motor, fixing broken fiberglass, new shocks, rocker moldings, door panels, radiator, radiator support, shroud, condensor, gas tank, new exhausts, radio, speakers, and loads more. Hopefully it will oneday be finished.

This is a pic of the Vette after i first got it.

Door Pillar Rust

If the seller will allow it, pull off both kick panels next to the door pillars. If there's a couple pounds of rust in there, be weary. Also, if its the original suspension plan on replacing everything. I just got finished with my 74 L-48 suspension rebuild. After almost 30 years NOTHING is in good condition as far as perishable original parts.
