I was reading Dannoman's thread about Chicago dealerships, and got to wondering...

My '65 came from Nickey Chevrolet. I tried to research the dealership on the web, but can't find much info other than it's not around anymore (and that they built some monster Camaros and Chevelles back in the day). Does anyone know if it was bought by another dealership? Think there's any chance the sales records are still available somewhere? Would be a hoot to come across the car's original invoice.

So anybody out there up on the history of Nickey Chevrolet?

Thanks,

Nickey chevrolet

nickey closed in the early 70's, probably due to the gas crunch and the end of the true muscle car era. when i was dating my wife in 1962 her next door neighbor was the general manager of nickey. He would bring home a new vette for his wife every year,in 1962 she had a fullie 4spd. until she got busted drag racing in Morton Grove Il. . Her husband then brought home a 4dr. 6cyl. used Jaguar for her to drive. She must have taken something away from him, because when the 63's came out he came home with a white split window---250hp. auto,ac,pwr.windows,etc. She was in her early 50's at this time, the drag racing days for the "little ol lady from SKOKIE " were over. As i recall,Nickey was bought by Keystone Chevrolet and they are gone too.

Boy do I remember the Nickey Camaros. 427/425 and a 4 speed. I almost bought one in 1967 but ended up with a new 442. I needed something more civilized for a 150 mile one way trip twice a week for work. The 442 with the THM400 and 3.08 posi was great for that.

The fella who's Dad owned Nickey, was at the Chevy Vette Fest - you might catch him at another show - he was selling t-shirts & posters and re-living the dealerships history :cool
