I have been using Valvoline Maxlife on my '82, and I want to know what you guys think is the best oil to use.
Thanks.

GTX, 10-40 in winter, 20-50 in summer

Mobil one; been around the longest of the synthetics and the best IMO

I use Mobil 1 in my new cars, but I wouldn't put it in an old car.

Me, too.

Castrol GTX.

A friend asked if we were going to use a synthetic in the engine after we tore it apart and put it back together and I told him I'd stick with the dinosaur oil...can't let the poor old dinosaurs think they died for nothing now, can I?

I use Castrol GTX 10w 40 in winter and 20w 50 in summer. I drive the car 3000 miles per year and change the oil twice a year. Synthetics are a waste of good money unless you keep them in for 6000 miles +. For me that would be 2 years and way too long.

Any name brand oil. If your engine is old and tired Walmart oil will be just ok.

If the engine is new (or newly rebuilt) I'd use mobile 1. I have a friend who uses ut and when rebuilt his Camaro engine with about 120,000 miles on it and he could still see all the original cross hatching in his cyliners. I'm not sure if this is an accomplishment for an oil or not as I have not rebuilt my engine yet, but the way he drives I think it was an accomplishment for the oil to just keep the engine turning. He goes through tires in about 15k miles. The way I see it, if it will survive his driving, it will survive mine. On the other hand, I'm relativey igronrant on the compatability of synthetic and natural oils, so I would check in to it before switching. I'm sure they must be compatible, but it's just like measure twice, cut once. I'd verify it before I switched.

Mobil 1 in everything I own! No regular motor oil can give the protection of synthetics and keep the inside of your engine as clean. As far as the cost...It's a Vette. Why would I get cheap now? :cool

Mobil 1

Am I the only one that uses Mobil synthetic?
The man I bought my 79 from last year claimed to always use Mobil 1, I am going to continue to use it
