Question: What part is this?

Hello,

I bought my C5 a few month ago. It's my first Corvette. After getting it, I inspected it from all sides and found this suspect part.
I wonder about this metal frame (see pictures). It was hanging on the wiring of the passenger side tail lamp, inside of the rear Bumper. It was not fastend, only hanging and swinging. I can't find a possibility to fasten it or any reason, why it was hanging there. Does anyone know, what function it could have?

Well, first and foremost, WELCOME to CAC! You have come to the best forum on the net. We have experts here to help you with any question you may have about your C5. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that on my C5. Hopefully someone will be by soon who recognizes that piece and can tell you what it is and where it goes.

It's black painted steel, no part#, no signs on it.

Looks like a bezel for a small lamp lens....maybe an old aftermaket piece?
