What's The Deal With Red Calipers?

Red calibers look great with the yellow Vettes, almost as good as black, close second anyway :cool!:

Looks futuristic, if that is a word? Awesome looking that's for absolutely sure

Yellow is good on that; boy that black Vette is black all over that's for sure, real steathy :cool!: Yellow works better than the red on this one in my humble opinion :happyanim:You out done yourself on this one Shooter!

Bill :w

Awesome, yes it is. . . . . . . Kewl

Now this yellow one is BADA$$, wheel combo and car color is rightous :happyanim:

That black Vette is one sweet ride!

Joined the ranks of the red-caliper Vette's this weekend...finally got around to painting mine. Nice touch. :thumb

Less effort...

The write-up posted by 6Shooter is a good one. I did not go to that amount of effort and the kit I used was brush on paint not spray paint.

I jacked one wheel at a time. The kit I had (from previous uses) had came with caliper cleaner (in a spray can). I sprayed the caliper (avoiding the brake pads). This stuff evaporates within seconds. I then used two different paint brushes to paint the same parts of the calipers as shown in the write-up posted by 6Shooter...using a small artist brush (and a steady hand) to do the areas close to parts not being painted. I applied as many as 3 coats to get the coverage I wanted. Once the paint dried, I used a small piece of coarse sandpaper to remove the paint from the CORVETTE lettering on the front calipers...keeping the paper nice and flat and using more of a dragging motion than a typical "sanding" motion.

This method of course does not get the inside portion of the calipers painted (but who sees that part except you or the mechanic replacing your pads). I'm lazy and the fact that the inside of the caliper area is unpainted doesn't bother me for now. Will work fine for me until I need to replace the brake pads...then I'll tear them down and go the spray route. Definitely a better finished look that way.

If the kit you ordered uses spray paint...you will definitely need to follow the write-up procedure.

Thanks Ron,

Sure it will look fine. Are you going with red?

I need to get my camera out and get some more recent pics of my car. I've replaced the wheels, painted my calipers and am getting the windows tinted next Wed. Would like to drop it about an inch...but still investigating that change more.

Let us know how it goes! Hardest part of the job was putting up with the heat here.

Ron,
Definitely RED:thumb.

Bill,
The cost of the kit was $ 39.99. Not bad.:D
Paul:w

Not a bad price, it is high temp paint I'm sure. After it dryed could you see any brush marks?

Bill :w

Bill, I didn't use Ecklers kit, but I used Duplicolor's version, with high temp paint that brushes on. The paint would flow out and leave no brush marks at all. I even used it on my rotor "hats" on my 2001.

Thanks Tom, my C-5 calibers are already red but my daughter wants her Pontiac G-6 done and thought my wifes Pontiac GTP would look good wth red calibers too. I really didn't want to disassemble everything if this brush on type looked good. sure would save a lot of time and work :ugh
