What's The Deal With Red Calipers?

caliper color

I decided to go with gloss black so as to not distract from the slotted rotors and chrome wheels. I bought a spray can of hi temp paint and sprayed them while doing a brake job. Clean them with brake cleaner. You can also do them mounted by masking around the caliper. I just scraped the paint off the letters. I think I used a razor blade Since the car is Torch Red, I thought red rotors was too much and besides, I wanted to look different.;)

Page 8 of the September issue of Vette Magazine outlines the updates for the 2012 Corvettes. One of the new choices will be your pick of red, yellow, silver or gray calipers.:cool

Wow - that is SO exciting. Will Chevy never stop the technical innovations and improvements?

GM probably figured everyone is doing it anyway why not get paid for it as an option.

And there is nothing wrong with that either :cool!: At least we know they are listening and being responsive to their customers :thumb

Because even the design engineers at GM realize that not all calipers need to be red.:cool

Color of Caipers ?

Not a big fan of the covers...but I do like to see painted calipers...red does seem to be the most popular color...I get that. hmmmm...might have to paint mine now! Any body got any Torch Red paint? (Wanna make sure they match the car!) :mad

I need to get a new pic for my avatar...those stock wheels suc. And maybe somewhere besides the driveway!

To me it has always been something I'd like to do, Paint the calipers on my 2003 50th Anniversary ISC coupe, lot of work for just changing the color of something the works perfect as is in from factory gray. I don't know, I suppose if I had time, but I'd like to spend driving the car and for some reason I'd rather jack up the car and spend a weekend cleaning and painting. But my heath is slowly getting worse and for me driving is the best cure.

But here in this thread is some very sensible and logical advice, I'll just give yo mine as I have seen this question many times, One color that goes very well with torch red is Gold. I know it sounds crazy but if your working around you garage with your corvette is sitting alone in your driveway or whatever, cut two pieces of gold, (Even gift wrapping paper) and just slid them in around your calipers and then go about your chores and when you walk past the Vette or just look at your beauty, just glance at it and see what you think. I think you'll see it is a subtle wheel visual enhancement, and a color that will truly stand out in a field torch red corvettes.

The one problem with the color Torch red, which I'm positive is without a doubt the most sought after color, (Not my favorite, but) torch red limits you to a great degree with finding something you can add as a "enhancement color" against a large area like the exterior of Torch red on a Corvette. My 2003 is in what is called 'Anniversary Red' which I didn't realize was and is a totally different red color from all other past reds even when I parked next to a 40th Anniversary edition coupe at a Corvette show a few years ago, small difference in the tone and the 40th being much more of a burgundy in color than my 2003 50th Anniversary model. Please, just my opinion.

You Can Always Go With The Body Color

Doing the calipers the same color as the body gives you a nice clean coordinated look.

A set of these cost just about what the down payment was on my house in 1978.

I agree with a previous post, "Red is the law". Can't explain it really cause I planned to do mine silver or black, but they ended up red. Actually I'm quite proud of them. Added the perfect accent to the chrome wheels. JMO Thanks

Stolen from Porsche...just like the red ones. :eyerole

Speaking of the new Cadillac CTS-V, can you imagine a body/paint shop trying to match that paint after a boo-boo? Like everyday metallics aren't hard enough.

What can ya say, Red Cailper's Rule!:cool

When this thread started I was labeled as "boring" because I had two cars with red calipers.
Now, I have three cars with red calipers and I "rule"??

I'm boring?
I rule?

I'm so confused...
:cry
