What's the Difference?

I drove down to Houston yesterday to look at the 96 and it's a TOTAL DIASTER! Broken windshield, clear coat peeling everywhere, damage to the rear, badly torn driver's seat, engine wouldn't start, missing braces from the alternator and A/C compressor, disconnected vacuum hoses, one OPTI vent hose wasn't even there and the hole was left open, many vacuum hoses were mis-routed, one sensor plug was un-plugged.

BTW, what's that round solenoid on the passenger side of the intake near the front? It's supposed to have three vacuum hoses and one electrical connector. That gizmo was completely missing.

Engine looked like it has iron heads, but I didn't have a magnet to check to see.

Naturally I took a QUICK pass on that one.

With everything else wrong with that car would aluminum heads REALLY have made a difference?

Hang in there, you'll find something.

Nope, not a bit of difference. As soon as I walked up to the car I knew it would be a no-deal. I was just interested in seeing just how BAD it was. I'd spoken with the lady selling the car and told her I'd try to see why it is that the car runs rich (when it DID run), keeps killing 02s and dies out when the throttle is reved.

She told me she didn't think the engine builder knew what he was doing - Well, that was obvious.

I found two more today, but they're 1000-1500 miles away. Looks like Priceline here I come.

What about that round gizmo? Anyone know what it is/does? I suspect it has something to do with the heating/Air conditioning.

Well, I bought the one shown in my avatar. I'll be flying up to NY to pick it up the first week in May. That way I can kill two birds with one stone: pick up the car in NY then drive down to D.C. to attend my daughter's graduation from American University.

After the ceremony I'll be taking several days to get back to TX; time to stop and smell the roses.

Jake

Well, glad to see you're "back in the saddle" so to speak. sounds like you've got some time to plan the trip back. And the trip back should get you well acquainted with the new acquisition. :cool
