Which years identical to '96?

I had a question about the 1996. Which years in the C4-generation are closest to it? I'm pretty sure it's 93-96. I have a 1996 flood car, electrical is shot but the body and interior are in very good shape. Installing the electrical is a nightmare. We were hoping on finding a similar car (maybe a recovered theft) with a working electrical system and using this car as a donor for the engine/tranny, body, interior, etc. If anyone has one that'll work message me, because I can't find them anywhere.

More like 94-96.

Lots of changes from 93 to 94.

There are many places to find what you are looking for. Pull up ebay I found alot of parts to put my '93s back together. However I always check with the dealer first. Some parts are still stocked and are cheaper than going on-line and getting them.

The 96 is an animal of it's own. Interior-wise, it is the same as the 94 and 95. Body wise 91 and up except the fender gills (95-96). The engine is most like 92-95 models (LTx series) The big difference in the 96 is the introduction to OBDII for the engine diagnostics. Is this the LT1 (auto trans) or the LT4 (manual trans)I'm not sure how utilizing the newer diagnostics engine would work with the electronics of an older model (92-95).

So it is 94-96. Thanks. I wasn't aware that there was that much of an electronics change in '96, I knew cosmetically they were very similar. I forgot to mention it is an automatic, if that makes any difference. I was planning on getting as close to a '96 as I could. Another question; does anyone know of a really good technical manual? I have the Chilton for mine, but it covers 84-96. Is there any company that has a really specific manual for the electronics system, or did anyone use the shop manual for a specific year and find it helpful? I saw the shop manuals in Corvette America, but they aren't cheap and I'd like to know what I'm getting

If you are trying to completely rewire a 96, the FSM is your only choice.

Considering its cost will be a tiny fraction of what the parts, special tools and labor time will cost to do that, it's completely penny-wise/pound-foolish to question the purchase.

I had a 1996 very similar to yours.

1. 1996 is the 1st year for OBD2, all 95 and earlier engine harnesses are useless for your year.

2. I have the 1996 vette wiring diagrams on cd ( bought from e bay for 1$ ) if you let me know your email address I can send the PDF files as attachments.

3. as mentioned earlier FSM will be your bible both for diagrams and component locations and harness routing ( which is real PITA / been there done that)
4. For the missinf parts, there are dismantler guys on ebay, their prices are very good.

These are some very competitive prices for new manuals. The FSM is going to be the only way to do what you are wanting to do, like Hib said, the price is going to be the cheapest part of this project.

Thanks for the replies. We do have the electronics for it, the previous owner had taken them out of another car.

Although I'm not certain that means Paul@Zip would give a member the lower advertised price, it certainly stands to reason one should ask him. If he will accept the lower price, then members save $$ and support a CAC Industry Partner that supports us. If not, members can choose to wait for the helminc website to have the manual available again at the lower price.

I bought both books for my 96 from helminc for around that price, then sent them back for a refund after I found them $25.00 cheaper on Ebay. Mine were new, too.

I totaly agree with Jake.

ebay is the place to find "it" as they say. I have built three Corvettes using ebay as my primary source. However as I have posted in another reply I always check with the dealer first. I have found alot of items still in stock and have been cheaper than any place else.
