For those that didn't know that I wimped out on the SRIII type of chassis and stayed with my stock chassis but with the Myers Racing front end.....got it yesterday.....also ordered a TKO600 from Classic Chevy 5 Speed and that should be here next week......I was toying with the idea of also going with the Myers 9" Ford rear end......toying with the idea so much that I have decided to do that too.....but one of the things that I need to do is figure out what wheels I want to put on the car.....because depending on what wheel, Myers will adjust the width of the rear axle housing.

So, one of the wheels I am considering is the classic Cragar S/S wheel.....because they are going to match up the rear housing with the wheel I pick out I am thinking about 15X8 with a 2.5" offset, meaning that this would be a deep dish wheel on the back...coupled with a 15X7 wheel on the front with a 3.5 inch offset......so what does everyone think? The only thing I am nervous about is IF I go with that wheel, in the future I am kinda locked in to that offset in the rear.....I could go more conservative and go for a 3.5 inch offset which also gives more options in the future for different wheels.....

Also, what about 17" Cragar S/S wheels? the larger diameter will let people see the front and rear disc brakes...but I am worried about the rubber band look to the tires....on the other hand with the front and rear suspension, there is more latitude to how low the car rides versus the way it looks now which is more like a 4X4.......comments....thoughts....I value everyones opinion.....

CONGRATS!!!

I recently went with the same setup, TKO600 from Jeff at Classic Chevy 5 Speed and I am more than extremely happy with him and the kit. I also went with a 9" rear but mine by Ron Currie only because I know a few different people using it for 1/4 mile racing and they hold up under heavy abuse at the track. I put a set of front disc brakes on and a new dual master at the same time. I have had Craggar SS 15 X 8 wheels since I bought the car years ago and I had no problem with clearance with the disc or the rear swap. What suspension are you going to use on the rear? I went with the stock width on mine so there was no problem. GO CRAGGARS!!!

the rear is a 4 link set up with coil overs (QA1's).....looking to go with a 3:55 ratio.....coupled with the TKO600...should be the right set up....

Well me personally have always liked the torque thrust wheels on a C1 or C2 ,I dont know about sizing or wheel back space Just I really like the looks of the wheels.
I like their wheels as well...but trying to find the wheel I like in the sizes I am looking for and in CHROME was the challenge....

How do you like the McLeod shifter? It is supposed to shift better than a Keisler....what do you think?

I Like It!

I was impressed at Carlisle with it and even more so now that it's in my 62;)

I love the look of Cragar SS on a C-1. That's what I did with mine as well. I think the deep dish would look great on the rear. Are there any other clearance issues back there that the custom fabrication won't address?

Also, I hope you will post about your experiences with the Myers front end as you go along. It sounds like a sweet set up and I think I have one in my future. I'd really like to see what it would be like to get into my '60 and steer it instead of aiming it! I know you know what I mean! :beer

The fabrication is suposed to cover all of that...hopefully there won't be any surprises....I have mentally prepared myself that the body will be going on and off several times before I am satisfied that everything is ok.....I am planning that the body will go on one last time before I finally weld everything in place.....up until that time it will be tack welded in case there are problems that are major hurdles to over come........then the body can go off to the painter.....

I will be sure to post information and photos as I go....you can count on that as I will be asking everyone a lot of questions as well.......

ordered up the wheels tonight.....
crr-61015.jpg

got 17X8 with 3.5" backspace for the rear, so slightly dished
and
got 17X7 with a 3.5" backspace for the front wheels....

Did this after I ordered up the Myers Rear end tonight as well....it is a Ford 9" with 3:55 gears and a posi.....they needed the wheel specs in order to narrow the Ford rear end so that everything would fit just right under the car....now.....what tires do I get?????? Ideas??????

Isnt it fun ordering all this stuff for the cars, I used to love coming home and seeing some boxs on the front stoop
yes it is fun....but everytime I order something I watch my savings account take one more HUGE hit......this stuff gets very expensive in a hurry and adds up even faster.......I can appreciate why people loose interest....they really are out of money......

it's only money..can't come with you

Cragars are the way to go on the 57-62 vette.. imho

Curious to see the 17" size mine are 15x6... tires are a tough choise.. here's a shot of the american classic cragar ss with BF goodrich radial t/a's.. white letters showng look great if you have white coves

Hey First gear...

Billy Dawson (Corvette Correction at Seguine, Texas) may still have a complete frame already built that came out of a car he's installing his C4 frame set up under.

If he still has it..... it already has the Meyer set up (don't remember if it has a 9" for sure ..) and is a pretty fresh build...the customer just changed his mind and decided to go with Billys C4 frame and suspension. May be a bargain there...???

I went with the 17" primarily because I thought it would open up the area and show more of the disc brakes.....

thanks....but too late...already have the Myer front end sitting in the garage and the rear is ordered....

Probably better that way...you get it built the way "you" want it. Sounds like it's going to be nice...I have been battling with what exactly to do with mine too...with the Meyer being a front runner for a good while. Changed my mind and decided on the Dawson stuff...then came full circle back to stock....well stock suspension...I guess when I get the body ready, I'll have to finally come to a decision.

The expense is a big factor of course...depends on how good business is this year.

Looks like you are well on the road ...good luck with the project...
