Why do people tailgate Corvettes?

I've only given in once. . .felt pretty good. :L

Tailgating here in Chicago is the norm. I try not to drive in the city, especially on the expressway in the city. But when I do and that happens, I'm guilty of putting them away. ;)

I think it is a jealousy issue. I usually get people in their minivans or station wagons wedging me in traffic, tailgating, riding too close. I think they are all secretly wishing they had a vette and are upset they are relegated to driving their "family" cars...... I get this alot more in the vette than I do my other cars for sure!

It's okay to give in to temptation. :D The guy across the street with the Escort knows what my 4 round tail lights look like very well. He actually thought he could beat me in a street race. ;LOL

Dawn, I agree with your viewpoint, and it's not because of your pictures. Are you sure it's not the driver they're trying to scope out?

i just got mine and i already know what you guys are talking about. ive had numerous people slam on the brakes, pull out in front of me and everytime i fell like im gonna **** myself. and most of the cars are beaters like big pieces of crap that have no business on the road

ha ha ha. . .isn't it great to laugh so hard you cry? Mine was a little pi$$-ant in a POS Civic with a hideous paint job. He pulled up next to me at the light, gunned his little engine and shot me the "let's go" glance. I was gonna be nice, so I just smiled and shook my head. The little punk called me an A- hole and made a rude comment about SWEET. . .I showed him what an A-hole I could be. . . ;LOL He's probably still gunnin' for me. . . :L

Sweet04, you should be proud of yourself. You caused the poor little ricer to spend his next years' wages, allowance, and school lunch money just so he can try and take you. The good thing is that no matter what he does to his ricer, short of putting a rocket motor on it, he will never achive his dream. Good story. I get a kick out of the huge wings they have on their little cars. Some of them look like they came off of a 747.

One car length per 10 mph minimum gap. This is Atlanta though, and people are super aggressive drivers even out in the pseudo country where I live.

Next time I'm going to pull over and let them go on if I can muster that level of driving maturity. It's the long run vette preservation high road. Don't these folks know how dangerous it is to be 5 feet away going 50? Complete fools.

L.A. is even worst then that! You might even get shot out here!

I noticed that since got my C5, it looks like every one is tailgating me even when they are not. There is an intersection near me when you can see yourself in the reflections of the store front windows, I can see the cars behind me are really quite a bit back, but from my rear viw mirror they look like they are inches away.

Ha ha! Nope, not in those cases...... especially when it is females that are doing it!! There is a definite difference between people trying to flirt and people just being rude and obnoxious. ;)

I have only driven my 84 100 miles and that was to bring it home the day I bought it.

Funny thing now that I read this thread, there was a guy in a mini van out of state...not even from Illinois!!! that would not let me merge from one interstate to another.

Now, I drive about 200 miles every day in a white Chevy 1500 service van with ladders on top. Never do I have problems with tailgaters.

Maybe they are afraid a ladder will fall onto their cars??

Looking forward to doing more "research" on this subject.

Tailgating

You guys think it's bad in a vette?? Try being on a bike (motorcycle) and have some bozo do that. Kinda brings out the pucker factor, if you know what I mean. I used to carry some small rocks in my jacket pocket for just such people. All you had to do was pull the rock from your pocket, and just let it go, didn't even have to toss it. Gives the guy behind you one heck of a scare and he backs off. Luckily for me, I've matured in my driving over the years and don't carry rocks anymore.

Just a potato with nails in it......the nails are for weight!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!

nice post! I have had my vette a week and it has happened to me 2x.1 was a kid in Mustang GT and I choose to try and make him keep up with me which was a lot fun!The other was a guy in a Dodge dually truck must be something with people who drive dodge's

I always comment about this subject to my wife. It seems that they ride your flanks and don't pass(ooogling). Then they get too close for comfort. So, you have to pick up the speed to get a comfort level. I had a jerk like that in a pick up . I finally got rid of him by pulling over and let him pass. Then traffice moved up and he got behind a lane dweller and was locked in by someone in the slow lane. He was tailgating him for a long time. I saw him in my rear view mirror and that was the last of him. It seems that Vetts bring out the beast and bad behavoir of other drivers. A lot of them are mesmerized and jealous . They are quite annoying at times. You are trying to enjoy your car and have to be super defensive behind the wheel. Maybe they could make certain highways "Corvettes Only"..........

Tell you what.....next time a see a paint striper, I will give him/her a 12 pack to paint "Vette's Only" in the passing lane!!!

Welcome and congrats on your virgin posts. As you can see this is a great place for group therapy and tech advice. Thanks for your 2 cents and try to enjoy the ride even though our cars bring out the bad apples.
Thanks for the welcome ... I look forward to enjoying the forum!
