Will this hurt anything for one tank only? Can I drive it like I regulary do (heavy on the throttle)? If not, what's the best solution? I'm leary of octane boosters. Do they really work? If so, which one should I buy?

I do have a sand drag quad which runs on VP race gas (112 octane). Should I just putt around for a quarter or half tank, and then dump 4 or 5 gallons of the VP in?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Keep your foot out of her . . .

Should not be a problem . . . I'd fill it up with high test when she gets near 1/2 tank.

Later . . . . . .

If it really bothers you, you could get some octane booster.

That's an excellent suggestion Jon has- preferrably an octane boost with Techron.

I thought about that. However, after reading the dire warnings over in another gas thread about detonation and such, and how octane boosters aren't what the are cracked up to be, it freaked me out.

you need to put in it terms she will understand.....you will be reducing her allotment this paycheck to 1/2 of what she normally gets.....she should be able to run the house etc with that kind of funding....that is the same thing that she did to your car.......that she can relate to....telling her that she wil hurt the motor she can not relate to....but cut the $$$ and when she complains....tell her that is the same kind of complaint that you get from the car with the lower octane........she (the car) can't run on this kind of supply!!!

Hi cerberus -

Will not hurt anything - performance will be reduced and you will probably hear some ping if you have to put your foot into it -

And I'll bet your mileage is down slightly.

best regards -

I occasionally add octane boost to my 99 without a problem. The previous owner (a GM Engineer) found it neccessary quite frequently to offset the crappy gas in the Detroit area to keep it from pinging.

Thanks for all the replies. I figured it would be okay, I guess I just needed some "reassurance".

Won't hurt anything. Don't worry.

Guys....

Octane booster is a TOTAL waste of money. When you read an 8 point boost that means .8 Not 87 -> 95 octane. Unless its torco youre wasting your money.

Do not run leaded gas in the car either.

Either drive it easy til you can put some better gas back in, Find a pump with 100 octane unleaded, or get some torco additive.

Hope this helps.

Josh,
Do you have a link for information about this Torco additive? I've never heard of it.

When it gets down to 3/4 full, fill it with premium and tell her the next time she even thinks about putting that cheap low octane crapola panther pizz in the Vette... she is in for a beating....:L

Man I still can't believe she would do that...is she stupid or something???:confused

Hmm... Teach the ole ball 'n chain some respect, eh, TorchRed? I think some of our female Corvette owners around here may have a rebuttal comment for you in the near future.

:D

A figurative beating, I trust? Or maybe just open up a can of whup ass? 04 TR, you have such a flair for tact! :L (I recognize this "feature" in myself sometimes :D).

Sadly, some people, both male and female, have no concept of proper care and handling of our obsessions. The best thing is to just keep these types as far as possible from the vette, unless you want to spend many long hours teaching and preaching.

We've only had it since January, and this was her first solo trip past the pumps. Other than in the owner's manual, I don't think there's anywhere in the Vette marked "Premium Fuel Only", so she just did what she always does in her 4-Runner. I'm just lucky I thought to ask her about it when I noticed it was full when I got in it Sunday afternoon.

After seeing some of the replies about octane boost, I was planning on heading to the auto parts store to pick some up on my lunch hour, but I now see that it may be a waste. I've got some 112 octane VP race fuel that I mix to put in my sand drag Banshee, so I'll try to drop a couple gallons of that in when it gets down to 3/4 or so. But at $6.50 a gallon, it's a little pricey for any regular usage of that fuel. However, I guess that's better than a damaged LS1.

Since this car has over a 9.0:1 CR, I would think the "General" would have it more clearly marked or identified on the car specifically to prevent situations of this nature.
