Will 69 4 bolt swap with 85 intake etc?

As I am about to pull the motor on my stock 85 for a leaking freeze plug, I got curious(How come that emotion always is time comsuming & spendy?)
Would my freshly built 69' 4 bolt(out of a suburban) block and heads bolt up to my 85's intake, exhaust and rest of plumbing, sensors etc.?
Or just 69 block to 85's heads. My 69 heads are still just the trucks heads with good valves springs and 1:6 roller tip rockers.
The block has 9.5 to 1 cast pistons, the most cam to run with stock converter. Don't have cam card in front of me, probably 204 intake, 214 exhaust @ 50 degrees.
A call to Summit about adapter manifolds resulted in being told that they would bolt together,
What is your knowledge/experience with any of this bright??! idea.
Would free up alot of budget to exhaust and other parts.

As long as the head's are pre 86 I'm pretty sure the intake will bolt right up. On an 86 or newer heads the mating surface of the intake is at a slightly different angle. Not really sure about the dip stick and miscellaneous sensors hooking up to the older block and heads;shrug

it should bolt up fine except the cylinder heads do not have the coolant temp sensor's holes in them. So the heads will be a issue.

Thx people, for your patience too!

Would the L98 heads bolt on the block?
I'm sure they are a much better flowing head!
I know the dipstick switches sides and wonder if the 98's oil cooler arrangement will switch over. This weekend I'll have a much better idea. Just trying to cut a corner. The 69 has under 10miles on it plus it has afew speed goodies the L98 block doesnt have...., yet :eyerole

Have a GR8 weekend all! TC
Might just go nugging futz and build the L98! And all the other running gear(trannies already done)I'm soo fiscally irresponsible that way!

yes the heads will bolt up to the block. just make sure to double check your valve train geometry n stuff (pushrod length, etc) but all should be fine.

Wow!!!!

Is all I can say after pricing some of your parts TNT!
To get any horses out of these motors and their intakes takes serious bucks for small gains!!!
Engines out and will do teardown today to see what wear is. Not much I'm guessing. Although it appears the intakes been off before(blue silicone gooped on)
Doubt I'll put the 4bolt block in it. It would be a waste as I'm not going to pony up the bucks for the topend build.
But it would go right in, but I'll save that motor for a different rig.
And with the low end grunt of the L98 I probably will be best served with headers, better flowing mufflers, no catalylic and slightly higher stall speed converter to achieve my goals.
Which I decided in this cars case is; decent 0 to 60,retain MPG or improve it. Reliability. Daily driver.
I'll ask dumb questions about cams later and elsewhere.
Updates coming, TC

But it would go right in as I really dont see anything special about the L98.

Thanks for the compliment! Although I have a good amount of money in the car, there are others who have spent alot more than me.

BTW, I updated my signature as I forget to mention some stuff.

The intake on the TPI car is its biggest bottle neck, but you can get alot of great deals on used stuff off ebay (like a super ram intake or a tpis miniram II) I think there will be a ready to bolt in carb to efi manifold available soon.

Theres a thought

Will check out swap meets for intake stuff. Maybe the vette wrecking yard in Puyallup has some hidden gems.
Will be back checking on folks experience with mild cams after teardown today.
But as I see it with the TPI being good for lower RPM's as is, I'll build along those lines.
The 4bolt will probably end up in my 69 Datsun roadster with cam & intake changes for higher HP and RPM gains. Screamer V8 in a 2000lb short wheelbase chassis. Oh Yea! :Silly Bro in law and I have already designed radiator in trunk, roll cage and have 9" rearend for this project.
Thanks for all your input.
Off to tear it down, TC

good luck with what ever it is you do and on a side note, i've almost doubled the flywheel hp from the factory from 230 to about 435 to 440ish. And that is without the use of n2o!
