It seems each time I clean my windows, they continue to be smudged or foggy looking on the outside. I use windex, is there a good glass cleaner I should be using.

:)

It is called Invisable Glass

I use the Armor All glass cleaner. Works like a champ. However, the way it applied is the same as any other glass cleaner but you should use one rag to apply and another to buff it out.

For me, there seems to be a direct connection between immaculate glass and the pleasure (not to mention safety, esp. at night) of driving. I've tried every glass cleaning product known to Western Civilization, including things that were not intended specifically for glass.

What seems to be optically best, in my opinion, is Stoner's Invisible Glass. It's not the easiest to use because it may require 2 or 3 applications, or until you get all the contaminents off. But the end result is superior, indeed invisible glass, which is what you want. The glass seems to stay cleaner for a longer time too.

Some of the popular class cleaners that are available virtually everywhere, notably that BLUE stuff with the name virtually synonymous with cleaning windows, contains wax. Yes, that's right, wax. My theory is that they put wax in their products so that your windows get dirtier faster than if there was no wax, hence more product is sold. Wax streaks, picks up dirt and is harder to clean off unless you use more of the stuff that put it there in the first place.

GM makes a glass cleaner that is supposed to be used to clean the "glass"(actually Lexan) roof panels on Coupes. Okay. I've found it's not quite as good as Stoners.

Until something better comes along, that's what I'll be using.

clean glass

I like to use drywash n guard on my glass (just the outside). It just seems to disappear, and the rain just runs right off. It is a different approach, but I like it

I totally agree with MacShee98 about Invisible Glass, and I'll go one step further. I use only micro fiber towels with Invisible Glass. I don't know if it's the combo of those fabulous towels and the Invisible Glass that makes my car windows, my house windows, my mirrors, appliances, etc. totally clean and streak-free, but they are!! One little bit of advice...don't let the towel get too wet, keep changing it around!

Let us know how you like it.

Elaine

Try some Eagle 1 20/20 works great and is only $3 at most autopart stores. Also you can use newpaper if your towels don't seem to be doing the job.

Thanks for your recommendations on the glass cleaners. I washed my vette today and could have used one of the products you recommended. It's now raining and we're under a tornando watch. Oh well! :cry

Ok young whippersnappers, here's the deal. Use newspaper print (black and white, not the funnies). Honest to peat, try it. My dad showed me that trick some time ago. Even Windex works just fine. That paper just soaks up water like a sponge.

Only minor problem is you tend to get your hands a little dirty but, heck, you get that much dirt just wipeing her down.

The paper is cheaper than dirt too.

Stoner Products are the only way to clean you car!! Execept maybewaxing it :)

I'm with GS DIVA on the micro-fibre cloth to clean off the Stoner's. It's the best way to go. You won't believe the results. I once cleaned the side glass so perfectly that an hour later I rapped my knuckles reaching into the car thinking the window was down when it wasn't. Now THAT's clean!

I like the micro-fibre cloths so much in fact, I've got about a dozen. The best that I've found are the 3M High Performance Cleaning Cloth products. Not cheap at $5-7 apiece, but worth every penny. Totally awesome on glass, plastic, you name it.

Hint: remove wax on one side of your hood with micro-fibre, the other side with your old standard cotton towel. Stand back and be dumb-stuck at the difference. You'll swear the micro-fibre cloth side has an extra layer of clear-coat.

Make sure that you use 100% terry cloth cotton towels that have NOT been washed in fabric softeners.

Fabric softeners contain oils in them (which is why your clothes feel nice and smooth when washed in them). Those oils will smudge and cloud your glass.

I use Clear Vue for glass cleaning.

This may sound a little "Bubba-ish" but I have always had great success with a bucket of water some Suave shampoo. I refuse to use windex because of the wax thats in it. I use that little formula for all glass and it has always worked great!

Also it is somewhat idiot proof as long as you don't let the soapy water dry on the windshield :)

I hope you don't mind me putting in my two cents worth here:

One reason for streaks is that there is so much crap coming off the road onto your car like oils, tree sap mist, dirty water etc that although you may think you are cleaning your windshield with a wiper you're not.

Here's how to get Kick A$$ Exterior Gla$$:

Step 1: Wash and dry your car
Step 2: Use your clay bar to clean your windshield with a 100% Cotton Towel.
Step 3: Clean your window with Lusso Glass Polish or Stoner Invisible Glass
Step 4: Do the Rain-X treatment

Important Side Note: Ammonia is a primary component of WindeX and ammonia can strip the oils out of your black plastic trim around your windows and can accelerate the delamination of window tinting. Neither Stoner or Lusso use Ammonia.

I use Stoners Glass Cleaner...great stuff... I get mine at Pep Boys..

;stupid

Because of this forum I tried Stoners and could not believe how great it really works !
WIndex claims to not streak but I have never used it where it didn't.
Usually I have to go over the window again with a dry towel to remove the streaks the streak free cleaner left behind :hb

Stoners was only 3 buck or so ?
Worth the try.
I also found it at BJ's in a 3 pack, forget the price?

Windogw Cleanin

I have tried almost everything mentioned here and found that nothing works better then good old newspaper and the clear windex.

The 'old' methods are the best. This one sounds weird, but I use hot water and a little vinegar. Cuts thru the grease and takes all of the cr@p off the screen. I then use Rain-Ex on the outside.
