Wipers pausing on intermitent

I see a lot of people having issues with wipers doing all kinds of crazy things. Usually they clean the udders, replace the motor, etc. I am having an issue with my wipers on my 97. They operate on low and high speed as they should but if you put them on intermitent everytime on the return wipe they pause in the middle of the windshield for 3 sec and then return, wipe, pause It operates as if this is the normal cycle. I have had the car 10 years it has done it from day one. Never any other issues with the wiper motor. Any ideas??? Always apprecite the help.

If it has done this since day one, it sounds like the motor was not manufactured correctly.
I haven't had a GM wiper motor apart, but on a Mitsubishi motor I had, there was a contactor wheel that spun around inside that would direct power through different paths depending on the position of the wiper switch.

I'd look into replacing the motor.
