Looking at a 79 vette with 65k miles on it. It is in good shape - needs some paint and minor interior fixes. Runs perfect, body is straight, no cracks, and gaps are right. Has removable top - and L48 engine.

I have seen these cars listed evereywhere between 6k(needs work) and 25k(for perfect low mileage cars). If you were buying it - what would you offer? Conversely if you were selling, what would you be asking? Somewhere in the middle should be the answer.

Just bought my 79 two weeks ago for $5700. L82 engine, auto, 86k miles, needs paint touched up and a few interior tweaks, but body and engine very sound. If he wants more than $8,000 I would look some place else. Over 53,000 79 were made and it is easy to find another one.

$25,000, for a 'perfect' '79 L-48?
:confused

MAYBE a '78 Pace-Car L-82/4-speed car with less than 10,000 miles...MAYBE!

I got my '82 in May '00, with 11,137 miles, in excellent condition, for $15k, and I didn't think I got 'taken':
a buddy bought an '80 this April with 14,000 miles for the same price, and his is at-least as nice as mine is/was then.

If you consider that a fair-price for a late-C3 in excellent condition, consider what that '79 would need (paint and interior work for $3,000-4,000?), and what it will be worth when finished, less the mileage difference (65k miles vs. teens).

As stated earlier, there were plenty of L-48/auto Corvettes made:
I'd think $7,000-to-$9,000 range is the max I'd go.....

Just my $.02 worth.

I agree with the last two posters, I purchased a 76 about a year ago, 40K great shape, runs great, needed some paint and I paid 7500, I would not go over 8500..
