WOW! New Autoweek Arrives "New Vette Say it Aint So"

Historically, I have liked Corvettes, and would prefer to buy American, but I bought a 01 Porsche BoxterS because I liked the lines. Handling and build quality is better, and disliked that huge ugly rump on C5. Here is Bob Lutz's first disappointment in his new role at GM styling. That large disproportional trunk is still there on C6 and its still ugly. Looks like I will be buying another BoxterS in 05.

Bummer, With Lutz at the helm I'd hoped for a curvaceous shape with hints of the 63 Mako shark complete with boat tail fastback. I hope this is just a joke played on Jim Dunne and the real next Corvette is testing elsewhere.

Corvette owners would buy a Nash Rambler with a Corvette nameplate on it. The most disagreeable styling feature of C5 is the rear end which defines ugly. It looks like C6 is more of the same

I think the comments the heavily camo'd C6's get are hiliarious. That is like saying a woman is ugly when you see her wearing a burka!!! No matter what GM does with the C6 the Corvette bashers are still Corvette bashers just looking for an opportunity to bash. There's lots of cars out there they can buy to fit their tastes so, why should they care about the horrible Corvette?

You may be right, but I think most are just very emotional about the outdating of their substantial investment. After I bought my '87, it looked like a "new(er)" vette for many, many years (maybe not to you and me, but to the layman). C5 owners will not enjoy that type of "longevity." They know that soon they will be hearing, "Hey Joe, just saw the new C6, when you gonna get one of those?!."

But Joe is financially "stuck" with his C5. I think Joe and many other Joes don't want to like the C6. They want the C5 to be superior so they pick at the cammoed C6. Though I sympathize with all the Joes, their lot is cast. The C6 is coming and all of our vettes will be one generation older. But each is al great car in its own right - owned, not by traitors to the Corvette brand, just loyalists that are emotionally challenged right now.

Notice that after the release of the NM spy shots, there were very few critical remarks vs. the following of the Dunne shots. Perhaps reality is setting in.

I have to agree with them, the C5 a__ is too big. In fact, the
whole car is too big. I pulled my commuter car (1995 Firebird)
next to a Z06 last week. C5 is bigger in front and especially
back.

GM did not NEED to make C5 so big just to get a 350 v8 in there.

I think smaller is sportier, to a degree. I am sticking with my
c4 for right now because it's smaller than C5 and I prefer that
look.

Yup my C5 looks like a barge next to my C4. I have to laugh all the car mags did was say that C4 was too big and GM needed to make the next generation (C5) Corvette smaller and trimmer and more agile. Then when they rolled it out nothing at all was said that I can remember that C5 was even bigger than the C4 they were already saying was to large for a true sports car. I think C6 looks even bigger than C5 with all the big bulky fenderige.

I like the big Corvette. To me it is an American icon and I wouldn't want the C5r's roaring around LeMans looking like overgrown Miatas. The C5 has more interior room than a C4 and more trunk space (a real trunk on my vert). It has a presence that says " I can hold my own on the American road". I have owned at least one of each C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4 & C-5 over the years and I liked them all. My C5 is by far the most user friendly for trips and everyday use than any of the others. It could use some interior refinements and more ponies. This is just my opinion of course!!! You can never be too rich, too thin or have too many ponies. (I'm not rich, not thin and don't have enough ponies). :L :L :L

Keep C6 big!

I love the big butt on the C5! Keep the Vette big and bad. If I wanted a Boxter or Miata, I'd buy one. No wimpy Vette please! You pull up next to the Vette, you feel its presence, you pull up next to a Miata and wonder how a guy can fit in that thing.

A Miata was not what I had in mind, remember I said "to a
degree". C4 is on the large side, I wouldn't get any bigger.

This is just my personal taste, but I like Ferrari, or viper from the
back. Viper's back looks like a pancake, radical, therefore, racy.
I like RX-7 from the rear for the same reason. I like the Jag
(I forget which one, one of the newish models 2 years ago)
from front and back.

Even the Olds Alero has a slimed rear I find appealing.

As for comfort and interior space--again just me--I think both
are somewhat at odds with a sports car. I like the c2, c3, c4
with less comfort and space. Ever seen an F-16 cockpit?
Ever driven an Indy car? I have, and it's not comfy.

I, personally, have my v6 firebird for rainy days and more interior
room and driving over shi__y roads with pot holes and bridge
joiners.

The F-16 reminds me of Miata, the F-15 would probably represent the C5. Two different planes, two different cars.

I like the size of the C5's so I guess I won't mind the C6! I will keep my C4 in any case. I want to see the unwrapped version before I'll decide.

Personaly, I really like the design of the C5 corvette, but I am now exited and waiting for the C6 to come out since I now know they are definatly making another body dtyle and are not dicontinuing Corvettes like Pontiac did with FireBirds!!!!

In the Words of Sir Mix A Lot " I like big butts and I can not lie!" The C/5 Looks great compared to the plain looking C/4 Fat stance sleek lines wide body all the curves a man could ask for and in all the right places. The interior is the only set back Imo.

The reslease sequence that Hill spoke of (Coupe, sometime later vert, a year later the Z06), had to have been partly orchestrated by the marketing boys. That schedule will keep vettes on the covers of every major car rag for most of the year. Lots of attention for GM and their world class capability.
