XLR V Series usibg Pirelli Tires

I'm guessing he means Pirelli's instead of the Goodyears they currently run :D

That's exactly what I mean.
 
OK, makes sense :) However, OEM factory tires are developed by both the car manufacturer and the tire manufacturer as a joint effort in order to meet many specifications laid down by the OEM's, with the tire manufacturer submitting many sets of tires during the vehicle development process until the tire construction meets OEM requirements. This process is costly and time-consuming, and most OEM's don't make a tire manufacturer change on the fly without a good reason and considerable development time and expense.

Although tire constructions/tread patterns may change somewhat during the life of a given platform to take advantage of continuous improvement opportunities from the tire manufacturer, changing from one manufacturer to another during the life of a platform hardly ever happens, as the development, validation, and Federal certification process has to start all over again ($$$).
