Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

YEAH!!!!!!! I think we have paint

well, stopped by the shop yesterday to check on BABY. He is a little behind schedule this week but at least a little progess has been made.
He sprayed the insides of the doors and the doorjambs.
The color looks awesome!!!!!!!! The color tint seems to be right on and the metallic level is just where it should be - just a little bit and very fine grained. You pretty much really have to look into the paint to see it.
Today he is suppose to reinstall the doors so the rest of the body & doors can get sprayed all at once plus work on a few minor touchups on the headlight buckets we found still need to get done.
The previous car he was finishing up last week was still in the paintbooth but that is suppose to come out today also so hopefully BABY will get the rest of the body sprayed by tomorrow or Friday (he did the door insides and door jambs out of the booth in the shop).
It wasn't a lot of progress to see yesterday, but it was a big step as we finally got to see the new paint mixture sprayed on the car as a final color tint test and it looks great - both inside the shop and rolled outside in the sunlight.

Barry,

If I could move my '66 off of my Backyard Buddy I'd give you a lift! I'm still waiting on the instrument cluster restoration from Corvette Speciaties of MD. If the job is as nice as the one they did for me on the '60 I'll be very happy!:D

Terry

I forgot you had that lift at your place. hmmmmm, when you get the '66 off it and if you are still willing after your cluster comes back I'll take you up on that offer
:beer

I'd like to see the cluster when it comes back if I may. Next year I need to pull my cluster to get the speedo and odometer repaired and would like to see their work - I hear they do a very good job.

JL66REDCPE,

The GM plant is closer than Fox Run. It's very near the intersection of Rt. 141 and I-95. You can make it on one tank of gas! :D

Terry --- thats a good one !!!!! :) I can definitely make that one on a tank of gas. I have run across something called Lead Accelerator by Torco Fuels that will supposedly allow me to use 93 pump gas. I am waiting for the dealer to get some in as we speak. We shall see.

Wonderful news that everything is moving along great! Really nice to hear BABY is progressing along and you're happy with the results so far Barry. Cheers:beer and please keep us posted.

Barry,

Update. My car has had several coats of primer applied and has been block-sanded several times to get things right. Colour goes on the jambs early next week, door lock/latching repair work will be done, and then exterior colour/clear-coat as well. With re-installation of all the hardware (new bumpers, etc.) and final remedies of any flaws, the delivery date looks like May 12 or 16. I will not take delivery on Friday May 13th!

Paul

glad to hear things are progressing well for you!
can't wait to see pics when she is done :)

Barry,

Wish I had some suggestions on your bumper problems. I have my new ones (Par......) sitting beside me as I type. I believe at one point JohnZ said just use normal wax, not chrome abrasive polish. That did not mean a heck of a lot to me as I was doing driver's bumpers. But as you said, when you pay out for for these new ones, the landscape sure does change. They are dear. I am not going NCRS - but very correct - and I, as you, want my car to be pristine. Sorry to hear of your problem. Wish I had a solution.

Paul

that's what my bumpers are - GM restoration units from Paragon. Pricey little suckers aren't they! :hb
Wish I had seen one of John's posts earlier about not using chrome polish but as always I have to learn the hard way. At least I didn't do all 4 pieces before noticing the problem.
I think the worst part is that now I have to put this bumper back on my car with the brand new paint job and even if nobody else notices the marks on the one bumper I'll know it's there and I'm sure I'll notice it every single time I am with the car. Funny how when you know something is there your eye notices it every time even if it's barely visible. Chances are noone else will ever notice it but I know I will and it will bother me constantly untill it's replaced (unless it can be taken out by a professional polisher). I guess it's another item to be put on the list of "Things to do to the Vette" for next winter.
SIGH...............

Barry..how is BABBY coming along?? Thomas chevrolet show this sunday. I'll be their. Hope to c u..

well, I just spoke to my painter to see how the progress is going. I was hoping it would have color on it already or by today but we have another bit of a delay. Typical for my luck!
The previous car he was working on and was in the paintbooth we were waiting for him to finish up and roll out of the booth so we could get my car in there but the paint 'lifted" on the other car in one rear corner and he has to finish repairing that job first. He is working over the weekend to finish the other car up and finish getting mine all prepped for the booth and he thinks by the beginning of the week we should be rolling BABY into the booth for spraying.

Will I EVER get my car back? hmmmmmm, I guess we all have to stay tuned to find out.

that's funny Bob!
;LOL

after 8 months in the shop now I AM getting a bit desperate..........

Barry..I know your up early Like I am...Look, stop on up to Thomas Chevrolet today. Should be some nice cars at the show and u can talk "shop"..Mike ease the pain a bit......You have exceeded the level of patience any corvette guy could tolerate. Thumbs up buddy..hang in their . 2 more shos coming up..may 14th and may 15th...I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Andy

I just got in from work 5 minutes ago. I may stop up there if the weather looks like it will clear up - it's still drizzling slightly - and if I can stay up :)
If I don't make it there than i'll see you Tues night at the meeting
