YEAH!!!!!!! I think we have paint

Andy/Barry

I was planning on heading up today but it's still raining at 8:10 AM at my house. This is disgusting. We've had rain on 6 of the last 8 weekends. Worse, I went to bed last night with the weather report rolling around in my head. "Rain ending overnight with breezy conditions and sunshine moving in tomorrow morning". Great! I thought. The rain will be all dried up! Yea, right! Barry, I'm convinced that even though you think that you have a black cloud over your head that the Vette gods are turning in your favor. You have missed next to nothing in the way of good Vette Show/Cruise/Driving weather. I look for the weather to turn gorgeous the minute you roll that bad boy out of the shop! :D

Terry, I've been watching the weather too all morning (literaly ALL morning since I have been up since waking at 9pm last night to be at work at 11pm and getting home at 4:40 this morning).
it looks like the drizzling has stopped but it's sure not clearing up - still plenty of nasty looking clouds covering everything. I'll give it a few more hours but things are not looking good for car shows today.

Actually Terry, I DO have a black cloud over my head - at least today I do it seems by looking up in the sky............ ;LOL
Yes, I know I haven't missed any shows really because of the weather and only a few really nice driving days. At least on rainy days like this I don't feel so bad the car isn't done yet. it's the nice days that get me frustrated! With my luck though as soon as the car is finally finished we will most likely get hit with biblical weather ( you know, rain for 40 days and 40 nights) :)

Oh well, you and everyone else that knows Joe knew that when I told you he was going to do my car that he would do a fantastic job, but that it would be a slow process and it would be a longgggggggg time until I got the car back. I still remember you laughing last year at the Hagley show when you almost busted a gut laughing when I said I thought the car would be back in only 2 or 3 months. maybe i'll get lucky and get the car back in time for this years Hagley show! ;LOL

Thomas Chevrolet Show.

Barry / Terry.....

A nice show Sunday at Thomas chevrolet. The weather really cleared up about noon and a great day..lots of folks came out! Good to c u their Terry......Barry...Missed ya. Hope to catch u at the club meeeting tuesday.

Barry....Their is a Historic Car club of Pennsylvania show on May 15th Held at Linville orchards. I have been to the show the last 3 years...A nice event...plus usually a BIG flea market and theirs always Linville orchards to walk around.....Then on May 19th from 4-8 (something like that), is the HERRS Plant cruise night at the Herrs potato chip factory in Nottingham, PA. I went last year and a GREAT turnout of cars for a Mid week cruise night.....Thats followed by a show in Langhorne on May 21st. at Reedman-Toll auto world..1700 E. Lincoln highway in Langhorne..and you can't forget about the Sundance saloon show may 22nd...Go back and get your trophy from last year!!!! Another neat show is The Kimberton area car show on May29th from 9-3. About 400 cars last year.....

I'll be nosy...u know me...I am QUITE SURE that you checked around on quality of workmanship etc......How long did the shop tell u in the beginning it would take for BABY? Did u check out County Corvette or other places for costsand timeliness.

Terry / Barry...Have a good day..

Barry..the GREENWOOD yesterday came in last place in the custom car category.....The cars ahead of it were stunners!!! A 1989 car decked out with underhood mirrors, GOLD and enough chrome to have set back the owner major money..A great looking car to say the least...The other custom winner was a friend of mine...You may have met him before at the concord mall show..Bob Anderson...he has a Blue 2002 (??) NICE ride!!!!....
Another great event..Man, I love this stuff!!!!

Andy :)

Andy

sorry we missed the show yesterday.
With the weather we figured a lot of the cars wouldn't show up. Sorry the hear the Greenwood of yours didn't do better :( We do have the HCCP Show on the 29th scheduled also.
On the 21st is a great show in Medford, NJ I went to last year. If you want details let me know

We are hoping to have the car in time for the Herr's show - Linda found out about it last week and the Sundance show is a priority for me! As you say, I need to go back and get my trophy.

Andy, Andy, Andy...........did I check around before choosing my shop?? Oh, believe me, I checked around for everywhere before deciding on Joe's shop. I knew it would take a long time although our initial time frame goal was March. We would have been very close to that goal if the delay on the paint itself hadn't been a factor but it took PPG about 7 weeks to get the paint mix formula correct. As for workmanship, that was THE deciding fator on the car going where it went. Stop by one day and I'll go over all the progress pics for you and you will understand why. As for the other places, one actually quoted me $20,000 for the paintjob WITHOUT all the bodywork Joe has done to my car - that was outrageous!
You will see, Baby may be taking a while, but when you see her finished it will be worth the long wait.

See you tomorrow night at the meeting

Andy,

The Greenwood is awesome! I was blown away! I think there was a lot of "block voting" going on there with the strong representation of both the Liberty and Keystone clubs. All three were great cars.
I need to take a ride in that rocket ship of yours!:lou

Barry,

The only question I'd have for your painter would be "why did you wait so long to order the paint?". He should have planned ahead and started on that process before he was ready to shoot the car. Losing 7 weeks due to paint matching is ridiculous at any rate, in my opinion. It would seem to me that with his vast experience he'd know that color match can be a problem. Let's hope that all is well that ends well and you will be thrilled with the result, whenever it is fininshed. I do think he is setting a record as far as the time he's taking even if he is a one man shop. Your body repairs weren't that substantial.

Terry

The delay on the paint was an accident.
I picked up a pint of the Milano Maroon last summer before we decided on the whole paint job and the initial plan was to just touch up the hood blisters. That pint was lacquer since that was what the existing paint on the car was. The sample pint was close but not perfect so he had it retinted and it came out great. Afterwards we decided to go with the whole repaint and using BC/CC and the sample pint of lacquer sat around the whole time. When it was time for him to start cutting in a few areas in preperation to paint after the primer went on he grabbed the sample pint to start the painting forgetting it was lacquer we had and not Basecoat paint. At that point of course he realized the mistake as soon as he looked at the can and he reordered more Milano Maroon in basecoat - we never expected it would take 7 weeks to get the match correct! If we had repainted in lacquer it would have been done weeks ago as the lacquer was easy to match correctly. It was only when we tried to get the proper match using BC paint that the troubles began.
Actually, i think you may be surprised at how much bodywork he ended up doing. Granted, it's not like I had rip and torn and shredded body panels to replace or repair but he did do a LOT of work all over the body to make everything as perfect as possible - and we all know that while his workmanship is great he is no speed demon while he's doing it. ;LOL

Hi Barry,

I've been following your thread and as a lot of other folks here, am looking forward to seeing your baby finished!

Man, it's gotta be frustrating waiting so long..

A buddy of mine just bought a '67 coupe and while the paint is very good, it's not the correct color so he's going to repaint it.

A mutual friend of ours that does incredible paint and body work told him it would take at least a year to do.
Restorations is not his primary money maker.
My friend was able to find someone that specializes in old vettes and shortened the timeline to two months.
This guy also does awesome also.

Pending my friends' car outcome, my coupe may be next with this guy.
I don't think I could part with my mid-year for a whole year.

Sometimes slow is a good thing if the worker is meticulous.

I'm sure your car will be beautiful..

regards,
Pedro

Hi Pedro

yeah, I can't wait to see her finished too.

My guy does specialize in only older C1, C2 & early C3 vettes and rarely touches other types of cars although at times he will. He's just finishing a '56 T-Bird and I was surprised to see a '60 Jag XK150 just roll in last week. Poor car was so bad I couldn't believe what I saw! Body so badly gone that what was left between the rust was hanging off the frame which didn't look much better. Had a chance to talk with the owner before he left and he tried to get my guy to work on this car for the last 6 years before he relented and said ok. ;LOL The rebuild be be pricey, i'm sure more than the car is valued at, but it holds special sentimental value for him. His only goal is to have it all rebuilt so he can drive it again before he dies.

Anyway, I knew the reputation of my guy fully in both aspects - workmanship and speed - so knew what to expect. The vast majority of the time it's been gone has been the winter when it would have been in storage anyway. You're in FL so it would be different for you I understand as you can drive year round (I need to move to a similar climate!).

Area Show

Barry / Terry...Morning.....

Barry...figured you picked the shop based on quality of workmanship...Can't wait to c "baby" soon..Is she in the paint booth??

Also, if either of you know a very good engine man...I am searching for someone to reinstall twin turbos on my car...I went to county corvette and got a ballpark price from them and my son had to help me off the floor (ha.ha.)!!

Terry...Thanks for your comments about the Greenwood. My son Alex and I took a ride Friday night back to Thomas Chevrolet for their cruise night...Sadly, only about 15 cars showed up, but it was nice to get my Yellow '76 out for a trip...
Your words about "block voting" really hit home. My son and I were talking about just that LAST NIGHT!! I agree......

Hope to go to the VA hospital this AM.

Listen. go to www.herrs.com....Their is a cruise at the Herrs Factory on May 19th from 5-dusk. I was their last year. About 200 ++ cars showed up...A real nice time..and not all that far away from us....Something to do that is mid week......

Stay well...might head over to Boxwood road after the VA today to see what all the "hype" is about the GM Plant show...

Andy
